Thanks to all of you for your advice - background: I had a warranty check for my Kodak LS743, wanted to buy a superzoom camera, not spending any additional $. I'm just a picture taking mom.

I ended up with the Kodak P850. Among the things I like - SD card (like the two I already have), LiIon battery, and image stabilization (which you guys convinced me is really important!).

Things I REALLY like - Staples (where the gift card was from, so where I had to purchase the new one) price matches + 10% of the difference - Wal Mart has it for $265... and a free HP printer (after rebate) and a free 512 mb SD card! Whoo Hooo! My total for the camera, SD card, printer and 2 year warranty was $355, including sales tax!

Only bad thing - my Staples was out of stock, had to order it from another local store - should be here Wednesday!

and if you already have a printer then eBay the unopened new printer!
Congrats on the new cam too.

Run to Staples! These are no longer available on their website, so you have to get it instore or transferred. The ad from WalMart is online - it's still 299 in their stores. I've been looking at the Z612, but it looks like it's not going to be available in the stores (besides Best Buy) for a little while. Staples just got the Z650. Still doesn't have the P880.

The printer is decent, it's the HP 8250. We may use it in the office, don't usually print stuff in there, but it's good to have a printer in there just in case.

I do like the user friendli-ness of the Kodak cameras. We have the LS743 (Staples refunded the $, we keep the camera - the problem is blurriness in low lighting, so as long as you're outside the pics are great!), V550 - which we LOVED for vacation, now the P85.

I've been very pleased with the Staples extended warranty - within the first year you can return to the store (with box, manuals, etc) for a full refund towards another item. After that it was a bit of a pain - had to mail the camera in for service -after the 3rd time they sent me a cash card. Still better than paying $350+ out of pocket!

I live in Canada and the pricing schemes are very different.

I will not buy a Kodak camera because I already have my trusty Canon A95, a stackloads of CF cards and my pro equipments with lenses totalling more in price than a fully loaded Jetta 2006 Turbo with DSG. (not to show off, just to let you know where I'm coming from)

But if I have to buy a point and shoot camera today, that price is astounding.

Congrats on your camera and happy shooting!
