As I had previously posted, I took my Mom (she's a 79 yo widow) for her first trip to WDW last week as an early Mother's Day present. She would never come with us before because she felt she'd "slow us down." I really think she thought WDW was just a lot of rides. We stayed at BWV. I got a card from her that read, in part:

"When I woke up this morning and looked out the window, the Boardwalk and the ferryboats were not there, but all I had to do was close my eyes and remember...Disney was the perfect vacation...I had the time of my life."

How can you beat that?

Take your parents and grandparents to WDW, everyone. Don't let them talk you out of it. I'm just sorry we didn't go sooner.

Mother goes with me at least once a year sometimes more - she is 80 - we are celebrating her 81 birthday at WDW....She loves it too.

How awesome! I'm taking my mother for the 1st time 6/1-6/3. It's for her 60th birthday. She's had a rough year and has never been to Epcot and we'll go for the Flower & Garden show. It makes me happy to hear these good reports.

Memories are what it's all about! Thanks for sharing.

I'm so glad you and your mom had a wonderful time!!!!!!!!!!! I remember when you posted that you were going and I told you to create all the memories you can with your mom. Although my folks didn't make it to WDW with us, we went on several trips together and the memories are even more precious now that my mom is gone and my dad is unable to travel due to a severe stroke.

Wonderful to hear that WDW made such an impression on your Mom! We've taken my Dad (84) w/ us 2x recently (most recent 11/02) & he loves it. I rent a scooter for him to use the whole trip, get a 2 bdrm, so that he can get away from DD, 16 & DS, 6 if needed, and cook breakfast & lunch in-room each day. This gives him a chance for a break, keeps the pace reasonable and keeps everyone from getting cranky. He lives with us, and this way he gets to go on vacation too (although we do just DH, me & the kids trips in between)!

Aaah Your Mom made me tear up. So glad she had such a special trip. The memories DVC has already given me are worth the price I paid even if I were to never take another trip. ;)

You mom's note made me tear up as well. So sweet. And what wonderful memories you also have of bringing mom to BWV and WDW!

That's so great!!
I took my mom this past December..just she and I and it was SO wonderful! She's 61 and had never flown before, so that was an experience as well-she was so nervous prior, and now she acts like a seasoned flyer. I never had to worry about her slowing me down--she has more energy than I'll ever have! LOL
Anyway, she LOVED it, if she and my dad were not building a house this September, she would've come with us..as it is, she's told us she'll be coming next year! Yay!! Another Disney nut made!

I'm so glad your mom had a great trip.

We are taking my parents with us in Oct along with DS8, DD4 & DS1. My parents didn't want to go because they had been to EPCOT one day 10 years ago. (And it was only a day trip, didn't even stay in Orlando.) But I bought them airline tickets and I've bought their park passes so now they don't have a choice. We have a week of magic planned for our kids to spend with their 70yo grandparents!

Pam and Minnie-
Believe me, I cried when I read the card and again when I was typing the post:o
Dizzie-
I pulled it off as a surprise, too. It was the only way I could get her to go;)
Donmil-
Your pixie dust helped make it a great trip!

Thanks for all of the wonderful responses!

Your post also made me tear.

I had to pretty much force my Mother and Step-Father to go about 2 years ago. Neither one had ever been to WDW, my Mother does love all things Disney, but they just imagined it like a big carnival and couldn't fathom what they would do there. My Mom agreed because she wanted to see her Grandchildern having a good time at WDW and my Step-Father just didn't have a choice. He complained for about 2 months prior about "what is he going to do at WDW".

Well needless to say they had a wonderful time and went back with us 6 months later and bought into DVC. I, as well as my childern will forever remember the memories we make at WDW.
