I used to get some great recommendations from this forum. I've gotten out of the habit of reading and would like to get back into it!

The Help was the last good book I read.

Thanks in advance! :thumbsup2

Still in the middle of it - but love it so far:

When She Woke
By Hillary Jordan

I'm a huge Jodi Picoult fan so if you like her - you might like this one too.

I just finished The Hunger Games trilogy. They were good. Before that I read The Book Thief. It is the best book I have ever read. I had to take a reading break after it. It was like a book hangover. I only had it as a Kindle Library rental. I liked it so much I'm going to go buy it. I was sad to finish it. And I swear I was almost in tears when I had to return the rental. It was an excellent, moving, thought provoking, all around great book.

Also another good one I recommend is "Thirteen Reasons Why".

I'm getting ready to read The Help today. I hope it lives up to its expectations.

Anything by Karin Slaughter or Lisa Gardner

Just finished 11-22-63 by Stephen King. Great as always.

Leisha Kelley & Francine Rivers are good authors also.

The Hallows Series by Kim Harrison :)

I just finished book 1 of The Hunger games Trilogy and can't wait for the other 2 to arrive from Amazon. I can't wait until the 11th person at the library returns it :rolleyes1

I also recommend the Hunger Games, but the books that I just finished and am re-reading since they were SO good are by Patrick Ruthfuss. The first book in the trilogy is The Name of the Wind and the second book is The Wise Man's Fear. I can't say enough good things about these books. The author is working on the final book of the trilogy now. Think a cross between Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter and then 1000 times better!

The Orphan Masters Son

11/22/63

The Hunger Games Trilogy

The Crown

The Winter Palace

Girl with the Dragon Tattoo Trilogy

All the Lee Child books. So good.

If you enjoyed The Help, try Rush Home Road.

There have been some nice suggestions here. I would add A Thousand Splendid Suns.

I found the book The Kitchen House from these boards and really enjoyed it.

Major Pettigrew's Last Stand, plus all of the Inspector Gamache mysteries by Louise Penny and everything by Deborah Crombie.

Currently reading:
Show Dog by Josh Dean. The author followed an Australian Shepherd pup as he made his way through the fascinating world of elite show dogs. It's really well written and interesting if you are a dog person!!

If you liked Harry Potter at all, you will love this trilogy written by Libba Bray. Beautifully written. Suspenseful and exciting and a bit more grown up. I love these books, have reread them more than once. Can't recommend them enough!!!

-A Great and Terrible Beauty
-Rebel Angels
-The Sweet Far Thing

all by Libba Bray. LOVE THEM!!!!

Okay i recently finished a Julia Child book BINGE. I read a whole bunch of books about her.

"Backstage with Julia: My years with Julia Child" by Nancy Verde Barr. (Just finished this one! It was my favorite of all the books about Julia Child!) Ms. Barr worked with Julia Child during her time with Good Morning America and beyond. Really wonderful book!! Julia Child was such a character. I'm a huge fan of hers. I actually got on a Julia Child book jag for a while.

"My Life in France" By Julia Child, Alex Prud'Homme-This is the book that was largely followed for the movie Julie and Julia. The book was wonderful!!

"As Always, Julia: The Letters of Julia Child and Avis DeVoto" by Joan Reardon
If you are a Julia Child fan this was a fun read. It was neat to get an insight into the friendship between Julia Child and Avis Devoto!

"Appetite for Life" for Noel Riley Fitch. This one was your typical biography. It starts with Julia Child's childhood and goes from there. Very interesting indeed!! Julia Child was a rather willful and rambunctious girl!!! Loved learning about how her childhood shaped her adulthood!

I could go on and on. I'm a bit obsessive with the book reading!! :goodvibes

Also have to recommend The Hunger Games series. Really, I couldn't put it down and I've heard that from so many who have read them.

I just finished Pillars of the Earth and World Without End. They're both long but enjoyable.

Like the pps, I also enjoyed The Hunger Games trilogy.

My Life in France by Julia Child was a wonderful read, especially if you're a foodie. I vaguely remember seeing her on tv and saw her kitchen in the Smithsonian, so that added to my enjoyment of it.

Loved, loved, loved The Book Thief and it is making the rounds of my extended family right now.

If you like YA novels, I just finished Out of My Mind by Sharon Draper. It is beautifully written and so thought-provoking. My son and I had a couple great discussions about it as well, which I consider a bonus.

I'm currently reading Man on Wire by Phillipe Petit, a memoir by the man who crossed the twin towers on a high wire. SO interesting and now I want to find the DVD and watch it.

Next up is Room by Emma Donoghue, my next book club selection. I hear it's really good but I'm not terribly excited about it after reading the back of the book...

Happy reading!

Like so many before me, I enjoyed The Hunger Games. After that, I read Divergent by Roth. It is the first in a trilogy - book two comes out in May.

Yet another Hunger Games fan (I have read the first two - waiting for Mockingjay at the library). Loved Hunger Games, but Catching Fire dragged a bit for me.

Also just finished The Girl Who Played with Fire (from Girl With the Dragon Tattoo series) and really like those.

Just started reading We have to Talk about Kevin. Having a hard time getting started with it, but it's beginning to pick up now that I am several letters (it is written in letter format) into it.

I work in a library, and see way too many interesting things that I want to read!

And I am also a sucker for YA novels!

Some really good suggestions here. I've been reading lots of freebies on Kindle, nothing OMG spectacular, but there are a few that haven't been bad a all.

Golden Lies by Barbara Freethy was a good romantic mystery set around Chinatown in San Francisco. Probably the best free book I've read.

Taking out the Trailer Trash by Janice Ivy (another freebie) was cute. Not a masterpiece but entertaining enough that I read it in one night.

I'm reading South Beach Cinderella by Sharon Potts now, not bad. Also reading Heaven is for Real by Todd Burbo. Really good story.

I borrowed Water for Elephants on Amazon Prime and loved it. I do not care to watch the movie, the book was enough. In that same vein, I downloaded The Midget's House (A Circus Story, a Love Story, A Ghost Story) by Anita Bartholomew a few days ago and while I haven't had a chance to read much of it, I like what I have read so far.

I recently read and really liked Fannie Flagg's I Still Dream About You. So great! I love her characters.

I always said I would never go to the dark side and get an e-reader, but Santa left one in my stocking and after finding so many free books (go to pixelofink.com and ereaderiq.com to sign up for daily alerts), I am loving it. I am ashamed to admit I haven't even gone to the library since Christmas, lol...I am addicted to my freebies on Kindle.

There's a great thread on this board that I read through when I am looking for something new to read. It is long and will take a while to go through, but there are great suggestions to books. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2424126

Ahhh...doncha just love books? :goodvibes

A lot of good book ideas. I am kind of a dork..I read all the time! I read on lunch at work, while waiting for my kid when I pick them up at school, while I ma cooking, on the treadmill, I will stay up all night if the book is good enough!! :)
I liked the hunger game trilogy, Room, The night Circus, Thirteen reasons why. One of my favorite, favorite books is call " A dog's Purpose" by W. Bruce Cameron.
I have read all of the books so far in the Game of Thrones saga. I have read some others but those are my most recent!!
Good luck and let us know what you decide on!

Some recent ones I've liked:
The Girls by Lori Lansens- story of conjoined twins. This was the best book I've read in a long time.
Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand- true story of a WWII POW
Emily Alone by Stewart O'Nan- about a widow dealing with aging. I love all of his books.
Alice I have Been by Melanie Benjamin- based on Lewis Carroll and the girl who inspired Alice in Wonderland.
The Lost Art of Keeping Secrets by Eva Rice- coming of age story of a girl in England at the end of WWII. This isn't the typical kind of book I read but I really enjoyed it.

I just started to read The Sense of an Ending, it's gotten great reviews.
