she has vomited twice, no other symptoms. She is acting fine. But get this, she vomited while sleeping, they had to shake her to wake her up afterwards. They said it was excessive and she slept through it!!! That's a new one! Thank goodness it's the weekend!

I'd be very concerned if that were to happen with one of my kids. Almost sounds like some kind of head injury. Maybe give the Dr a call and see if they can get her in or just to run it by them.

Rotavirus is going around - I really hope she doesnt have that. My DS has it now (pretty sure he got it from daycare) and it lasts 3-10 days.

Safety First!!! If she is sleeping while this happends.... I would be at the ER NOW!!! Call the Doc, go to the ER, get off this board and make sure your child is ok.
I am not one for vomitting while sleep is ok.
Please let us know how things go.

The first thing that came to my mind was HEAD INJURY.... I see I'm not the first one, get her to the hospital right away... this is nowhere near normal...

You need to take your daughter to the hospital, something can be seriously wrong.

I used to work with infants and we had a little boy that vomitted while he was asleep. He did not have a head injury just a stomach bug.

My kids all, at one time or another, did this when they had stomach bugs. I would at the very least call the dr and get his/her advice.

My pedi nurse told me to stop listening to you guys especially after she asked me if she banged her head and I said not that I know of!!! ;) I am certain the daycare would have informed me of that. I get incident reports for all minor injuries. Pedi nurse said kids throwing up during sleep is not totally uncommon and she would not associate with a head injury. If she didn't wake up, then there would be a concern. She said there is something going around and they can't even keep up with all the phone calls they are getting.

Thanks for being so concerned though!

I'm glad to hear your little cutie is OK. Thank God you have a good daycare and they were watching her even while she was sleeping! Its scary to think that they could vomit and not have it wake them up. I hope she feels better quickly!

Tiff211,
I've got to tell you that in your sig. picture, your daughter is a little doll. Beautiful eyes and mouth.

Don't let everyone scare you. Kids vomit in their sleep. They sleep hard and don't wake up just because their tummy hurts.

Aw thanks!

My son has vomited in his sleep before, in fact he did it just a few days ago. I didn't even realize it until I picked him up that morning and he smelled like puke! It's just a stomach bug, and he's a heavy sleeper when he's not feeling well. It's not a big deal. The stomach virus has been almost epidemic-like where we live. Our family alone has gotten it 4 times in the last 5 months.

Hope she is feeling better now. :goodvibes

I just wanted to comment that I had this happen to my DS. He was about 10 months and he was gagging and choking a little(on vomit) but never woke up. I took him out of his crib, changed him, and wiped him off with a rag. Only one time did he peak his eyes open as if to say ...oh that is mom taking care of me and then back to sleep. I took him to bed with us and he continued to vomit and dry heave never waking. I called his ped in the middle of the night and he basically said it's night and he doesn't feel good and that nothing I told him worried him. OK......well he was pretty sick for a few days but I was ready to take him to the hospital that night...still seems odd to me...but it was not a concern to the DR. That was the first and only (so far) call to the ped in the middle of the night!

Good to know that it isn't a concern for the Dr. I know it would have scared me badly, I can panic easily though.

My DD has vomited several times in her sleep and never wakes up. I always hate walking into her room and the smell hitting me. Most recently with the horrible stomach bug that is going around. Amazingly, she's the smallest and only had a small touch of it. Then it went to DH and finally me and I had it the worst. It has hit just about everyone of the kids in daycare.

One of mine vomits during sleep as well. It has happened at least 3 times. It does worry me as the child could choke from the vomit, but there really is nothing I can do about it. Good luck. Hope yours is feeling better.
