Got a blister ?.....

Late night last night at MK... got a blister forming at the base of the big toe.
Gonna change shoes today. Tough area to put a bandaid.
Will try to put a large bandaid under all the toes. Maybe wrap with tape around all the toes.?
Not sure theres much else to do now....

Bunk
Yes, I too had bad blisters that formed on the bottom of both of my feet near the base of the big toe and ball of the foot. It was only day two of our 8 day trip. I had moleskin with me and it definitely saved my life for this trip. I cut it and put it over the area and extended areas so as to not develop another spot that wasn't covered. Without this I would not have been able to walk on the blisters. They never did open which was a good thing (less risk for infection) and finally healed on their own once I was home. For the future I will definitely bring moleskin again--change shoes every other day--change socks midday--soak feet every night--rub bengay or analgesic cream on my feet, lower legs and knees every night--these are things I did and found to be helpful!! I might consider the vaseline next time as well!!

Moleskin is your friend! I pre-cut all different sizes and put them in a ziploc bag to take to the park. As soon as I feel even the slightest bit of rubbing/irritation I stop and I put a piece right on that spot to prevent a blister from starting.

Bumbershoot, why are cotton socks not advised? Are nylon or polyester better?

When I get a blister after a race I apply zinc oxide for a few days to allow it to dry out and it heals itself pretty quickly. If you normally wear socks to bed don't for a day or two and that will help it dry out.

Listen, I had blisters by the end of the first day at Disney every single time I went. By the end of the week, I could hardly walk my blisters were so bad. Everyone says try this shoe or that shoe or these socks or those socks. All I had to was rub Vaseline on the bottom of my feet & toes each morning to prevent blisters. You rub it on generously, then put your socks and shoes on. I know it sounds messy, but by the end of the day when you take of your socks, there will be no gooey mess left and no blisters. It's simple and It works. Good luck.

If you buy the Vaseline with cocoa butter in it your feet will be baby-bottom smooth too!

Moleskin is the way to go for me. I may try Vaseline one day but I typically don't wear socks in the parks.

This will sound wierd but, duct tape. My running coach had me put duct tape on a hot spot that was developing on my little toe and the ball of my foot. I thought he was crazy but I tried it. It worked great! The tape never moved and it came off really easy when I took my socks and shoes off. I've completed many a race with this and never had an issue. Also use wool socks they help keep your feet dry by wicking the moisture away. Good luck!

I use liquid bandages on all hot spots, or places I know are prone to chafing. I've tried so many blister bandages and moleskin, but between foot sweat and Florida humidity, they always slide off. Liquid bandages are the best.

I am very prone to blisters. What worked for me was preventing them. Getting them before they even start. I know the spots that I get blisters and on day one I put moleskin in those spots and wear Athens Crocs. I try not to wear sneakers too much.

This trip I forgot to do the moleskin on day one (hadn't been to WDW in 4 years) and I formed a blister. The rest of the trip I remembered. But I was still in pain.

And we don't do commando. We go at a leisurely pace and take midday breaks and whole rest days but I still get blisters. I've been told it's the shape of my toes. Who knows but they hurt!!!! I even get them from a day at Six Flags.

Ditto!:)

Another vote for Body Glide. I always wear all different types of sandals the entire time we are at Disney-no socks or sneakers-and never get blisters when I apply Body Glide. I do bring it to the parks and reapply once or twice depending on how hot it is and how much walking we are doing. I think alternating your shoes every day also helps- switching between four or five pairs over a 10 day trip. That way your feet experience different pressure points so blisters are less likely.

OP here, managing ok.. i cut out a quarter sized hole in my shoes insert. This worked well in relieving pressure in the area . Then covered with large cloth bandaid. It didnt get any worse after a day in the park.

Feel better soon popriv! Blisters do suck :(

I use deodorant on my feet. I dislike how sticky Vaseline is and deodorant does the same thing without the ultra-stickiness. Friction is the really problem here so anything that will act as a grease will do. When I do get a blister, I use blister bandages then top the bandage with deodorant so it doesn't cause friction with the shoe. I also change my shoes daily so the same "hot spots" don't get hit every time.

If there is a spot that I know is a hot spot on an otherwise comfortable shoe, I will cut out moleskine (the one that is plus padding) with an x-acto knife to the exact shape and place it there... indefinitely.

Just to add - people who do a lot of dancing pierce them to heal faster (if they have bubbled of course), but it can introduce bacteria and infection if you don't do it in a sterile way. If you do decide it's bothersome enough to do that, sterilize the needle first with either a lighter or rubbing alcohol, then lance it. Wash immediately with water until the liquid has come out. Let it dry and apply a blister bandaid (or any hydrocolloid bandage). I wouldn't worry about taking it off after that for at least a week unless it starts itching or burning.

I do a similar thing, but use the cloth adhesive tape that kind of has a shiny surface. The tape takes all the friction, leaving the skin beneath unfazed. I know where all the hotspots are on my feet and they get taped up good before I hit the parks. I haven't had a blister since I started doing this.

I haven't had a lot of luck with the blister band-aids in the past though. It would go on fine, and feel comfortable at the start, but by the end of the day it would be coming off and pulling at the skin on the top of the blister since the entire thing is adhesive. Maybe it's because I tend to get blisters in awkward areas of the foot . . .

Blister band-aids are your friend.

Love blister band-aids.

I agree, but, I used the Target brand ones. They are larger than the Band Aid ones, and aren't prone to coming off. On our recent trip (first week of October), I got a blister on our first park day. It was downhill from there. A second one formed in the same spot on my opposite foot...then...I got one on the tip of my pinky toe. UGH. That one was the worst because there is almost nothing you can do to cover it. I used the Target pads on the twins and then covered them with medical tape. The pinky though I ended up just letting it go. Abbout our 6th day, it popped and it actually felt better (still hurt...but less). The first night I had gone to Target and bought all kids of stuff. Both blister pads (Band Aid and Target brands), the tape, Band Aid equivalent body glide. I had to go back and get more of the Target ones as there are only 8 in a box (I think).

Good luck OP.
