So, I got a postcard in the mail re Disney TS3 on Ice. I was excited bc they had $12 tix. I didn't want to spend more bc we'll have been only back a week from being at WDW/DCL for 11 days. So didn't think $36 would be bad for the three of us. So I order and there is also a $5 pp ticket "convenience fee" and then I have to pay $2.50 per ticket to be able to print my own via email! so my $36 tix are now $58+! It really makes me sick that they can charge over $20 in "fees" while claiming tix are only $12. If DS wasn't such a TS fanatic, I might have said sc&%$ it. I asked what the "convenience" fee was for and it's for processing. Geez, they are next going to make me pay for even thinking about the show!

You can usually buy discount tickets at the venue box office, and save all of the fees! We often do this.

This is gonna sound harsh, but they can do it because people (like you) still buy them

I don't mind the convenience fee so much. I am thinking Disney gets the $12, TM has to make something off the service. But, I really don't like having to pay $2.50 per ticket to print them off on my own printer!!

not harsh, hipchickie, I was actually thinking the same thing when I bought them. stupidly, I already told my DS about it or I probably wouldn't have gotten them.

The fees are outrageous and we are not close enough to just drive to the venue to buy them. We live at least 60 miles away from most of the shows so I feel like we are at the mercy of Ticketmaster.

Last time I bought from Ticketmaster (about 2 months ago) there was a free option of having the tickets mailed to you via standard USPS. I opted for that since I agree - why do I have to pay more to use my own ink???

The extra fees and charges are completely out of control.

This is how Ticketmaster makes their money. I don't like it either.

Concert goers have been complaining about TM for years, and artist have tried to get around TM in the past, but unfortunately TM has such a strangle hold on the ticket market that no one has been successful.

Unfortunately, TM is allowed to have a monopoly, so really you have no choice if you want to go to the show. For some shows you can buy from the venue's box off, but this option is not always available. So your choices are pay TM or don't go to the show.

This is how Ticketmaster makes their money. I don't like it either.

See above, TM is one of the few monopolies that are allowed in this country.

I am grateful that my BIL works for a big company that sponsors a lot of local events. They often have blocks of company tickets that we can get in on. The tickets themselves are usually only a buck or two cheaper but no fees! Our circus tickets were like that -- $17 tickets with $9 of fees tacked on!! I saved more than $50 buying for our whole family through BIL's company.

Fees like TM's are why we go to fewer "big-name" events and choose smaller theater, music, or dance events that we can buy direct.

I refuse to by from ticketmaster. We just go and buy them before the show. Obviously, this would not work for all things, but for the circus and Disney on Ice (both Kenneth Feld productions) it has been the best. We have always gotten a MAJOR upgrade! Been doing it now for over 5 yrs!

ETA - by before the show I mean if the show is at 7, we buy them at 6:30, etc. We live about an hour away also and not worth it to just drive down there to buy the tickets.

They STILL charge those fees even if you go to the venue and buy them  This is a Huge part of why we almost never go to these types of shows and concerts

I recently bought tickets to the Rockettes Christmas Show in Boston. I went to the Wang Center to purchase them since I live close enough to Boston. I was able to use a off peak AAA discount and get balcony tickets for $20 each with absolutely no other fees than the advertised ticket price.
