Gosh Darn Nice People Here!

I am a avid poster on WDW forums. And just came to the DL boards. But I have to say as much as I love WDW. These boards are allot more friends. I am planning our family's first trip to DL!!!!! And I love reading how friendly and Helpful you guys are over here. I have gotten into a few tiffs over there that has caused me to take a mini vacation from the boards and I haven't encountered that here.:thumbsup2

He there Disneygal2007.... a bit OT here, but every trip down to DL (we always drive down) we stop in Fort Lewis for lunch, it always ends up to be just that time and we're hungry!

I agree that you all are very helpful! I felt like a fish out of water when I started planning this trip, but I'm much better informed now!

And as an east coast WDW vet...we're not all bad! I swear! ;) I hearby offer that if anyone needs any WDW advice and doesn't want to be judged, I'm good at that, come ask me! I just want people to enjoy their vacation!!

Honestly, if I check one DLR board, I check all three that I am a member of. I always check the DIS first though and I probably post here the most often as well. I feel the people here are kinder and less judgemental.

I've ventured over teh WDW side once or twice as the idea of a trip to Orlando intrigues me on occassion. I can't stay over there very long though. It's stressful. Opinions on top of opinions and often with no room for an opposing opinion. Plus, I'm a bit of an instant gratification type of person and find the info there is not as well organized.

Can I just say "THANKS!" to everyone here who makes it feel so much like family?

.....Here in the DL board, someone can ask a question about bringing food in and get honest answers, recent experiences, etc. If you wanted to ask that question in the Budget Board, it would spark a debate on the morality of bringing food, the money you are stealing from Disney and the park bench you are stealing from them, the paying customer. Then you would hear how you are robbing your children of the unique experience of Disney Dining, and if you cannot afford make every meal a character meal, why bother going? Which will explode into an inquiry of the mortgage on your house, your car payment, credit card debt and student loans, ending in the judgement that if you carry any of those debts, and don't pay cash for your trip, how dare you even think about going on vacation. ........

That's funny.

I remember those type of threads when i was posting over there. Sometimes it's fun to post a "Can I swim at the Poly if I'm staying at AS Movies??" type question over there every 3-4 months.....just to watch the fur fly. :rolleyes1:lmao:

Great post. :thumbsup2

& thanks for the offer.

Spark you're right....there are LOTS of nice people on the "Resort in the Swamp" board.....but since our board is smaller, there are probably far fewer folks here that are wound as tight. :)

I totally agree. I've been to both parks. WDW is so overwhelming and DL is.... well, it's home. I love both parks, but my heart is at DL. I've noticed here on DIS that yes, the WDW side of things things can get a little "snarky" over there and here on the DL side, it's much for laid back and friendly. Over at the "Forum That Shall Not Be Named" though, you really have to have a thick skin to post at that site. There are some great people over there, but things get very spirited, lots of arguing, etc. You have to try to not take things personally, but it's hard not to when you're called wrong for liking something that everyone else hates.

They're just very passionate people. :rotfl:

Heh...true true!! The pool questions are always great threads to watch.

I've never been to WDW or looked at their board but I have to say I :lovestruc DIS! Since I've joined a few months ago, I've picked up so many great tips to enhance my Disneyland experience. Everyone is so helpful here! And I definitely would not have had as much fun on my last trip if it weren't for HydroGuy's tips. :worship:

I was just browsing the WDW boards and there was a topic about going to DL if you are a WDW vet. Surprisingly, a lot of people recommended DLR and had positive things to say. Although I thought you guys would be interested in someone's opinion:

We went to DL this year for two days while vacationing in Vegas. After visiting DW a couple of times, we thought we would give DL a try, since Vegas is as close as we would ever come to LA. In my opinion, DL is nothing more than a glorified Six Flags. The CM were rude and did not seem as though they truly enjoyed their jobs. The difference in the CMs seemed to be that the majority of the CMs in DL were in there late teens or early 20's, much like every Six Flags park I have ever attended (and worked at). The CMs at DW seemed to be of the older crowd, ie retirees or people who have careers at DW. I had not been to DL since I was 7 years old, and I can honestly say I will never return. DL was not the "Happiest Place on Earth" in my eyes and the eyes of all the DW veterans we were on vacation with.

It will be DW all the way for me and all my DFs.

:scared1:

can't comment about DW since I have not yet been there....but I have been to DL at least 40 times starting in 1955. :) And I can say after just being at DL in mid October that I did not witness or experience what this poster was talking about.:confused3
Just about every CM we came in contact with was pleasant and doing their jobs well.
Over the years I have chatted with many CMs at DL, most have worked there for many years and love their jobs and the place they work;)

Even with all the crowds the CMs were polite and smiling, and it wasn't an act, they seemed to genuinely be having a good time working there.

I strongly second how gracious and nice everyone is on the DLR message board. No matter how many times a question has been asked, there always seems to be someone on this board who is more than happy to give a friendly and helpful suggestion. I know it can be annoying when a question gets asked over and over again, but I've never seen a member complain or respond in a sarcastic/cruel way. I love that about this board!

It is actually quite sad. The only way I can imagine anyone coming to this opinion is to put on blinders before their trip and keep them firmly in place. If the main point was that DLR is not WDW and that that is somehow bad, I say they have a misplaced love for WDW. DLR is not WDW, just like WDW is not DLR. I have hard time grasping how anyone who is a Disney lover at heart cannot be crazy about both. :confused3

:thumbsup2 I agree completely. It would seem that the person DLR quoted had impressions already in place. Perhaps they already had the impression that CA is a terrible place to visit so it was easy to transfer those feelings onto DL instead of seeing how wonderful it really is. Oh well, more room for us! LOL :hippie:

Having just had the worst vacation of my life at WDW--due in part to getting the flu and due in part to incompetent unhelpful CMs -- I will say that I have seen good and bad CMs at both DLR and WDW--it really depends on the luck of the draw--IMO.

Yup--agree. They are totally different experiences and must be approached differently.

its the matter on how guest take the CMs.

I have received different things from guest. For example...

THere are times when CMs just want to have fun. So sometimes, i run around the park and find ppl wearing Sandals and just for fun, tell them "hey, your shoe lace is untied!"

NOW, i have recieved 2 different responses.

most responses are...
Guest look down
Guest laughs
Guest tell me "HAHAHA, good one"
Guest continues walking.

that ONE response...
Guest rants on how RUDE i was...
I apologies.

I dont do that anymore... I had fun with that though... :)

Just got back last night from DL. We have been to WDW once- and ONLY ONCE.
We had so many awesome experiences with the CMS. I cannot imagine how they got this opinion. Was he ever there in the monrings for count downs with those great CMS??
Biggest OMG moment- we ate brunch at GK. We didn't care about the seeing alot of characters as we had seen all but Balou. DD really wanted to see him.We were seated at that little cubby right by the dessert table. Balou missed us. I asked when he would be back but it was tool ong to wait as DD had a BBB appt. The CM brought him back out just for her. THEN- as DD was at her BBB appointment, that same CM showed up and tapped me on the shoulder. I couldn't believe she was there! She then asked if she would like a private meet and greet with the Princesses PFF? OMG!! YES!! So after she was done getting PURTY we all walked to PFF and the cm had her two favs (ariel and Jazmine plus Belle) meet her in the back for private photos!!
This cm was a "20ish" cm who really went the extra mile! We never had anything remotely similar at WDW!

I know this was long but that response really chapped me!

How exciting for you and DDprincess:!

You know it is Karma for all of the wonderful things you do for people here on the DIS. I know every time we go we think of your generosity (especially when checking out at HOJO ;))
