Looking at getting a Gorillapod for when I don't want to carry a tripod around.

Anyone have any experience with the Gorllapod Zoom?

It is supposed to be able to support 6.6 lbs., which would be ok for my Canon 40D and all but one of my lenses. The Gorillapod Focus is supposed to support up to 11 lbs., but almost double the cost of the Zoom. Normally I would just go with the Focus, more support is better, but I am trying to keep my bag lighter these days.

Any experience on Focus actually supporting 6.6 lbs? Thanks.

I have the gorillapod focus. I used it last summer with a canon rebel xt and a 200mm lens. The thing did not even consider wobbling. I have upgraded cameras since then, and have not tried it with the new camera, but I would not hesitate to use it. It was rock solid.

I've got the gorillapod zoom and certainly as a tabletop style tripod, it can happily hold the weight of my Sony A55 + Sigma 170-500.

I've not tried that particular combination in any unusual positions though so it may well not hold that much when wrapped around a tree/pole etc...

I have never used mine as a table top tripod. I use it on hikes in national parks. I wrap it around bridge railings, or attach it to giant boulders. Never quite as precarious as the advertisement does.. but it is quite novel.
