GoPro users... Please disable your red recording lights !

Here's what I don't get: there's like a hundred videos of every single ride available on Youtube.

Those videographers have more recording skills than I ever will. Why don't people just NOT record any rides at all and just go to YouTube and watch the rides when they're at home?

I don't understand why people need to record something that's readily available for you at home.

I don't understand why everyone wants to film every experience. You spend so much time worrying about the filming that you don't really get to live in the moment and experience the actual show/ride you're so intent on filming.

:thumbsup2 to both of these posts.

And besides, I'd bet fewer than 50% of recorders actually WATCH the videos later.

I've learned to speak up. Especially to the woman who literally put her dslr with external flash over my shoulder to shoot wishes! We were by Caseys--she seriously told me that's the only way she would get decent pictures of the fireworks. I was shooting them with my tripod and remote trigger and she didn't listen to me when I told her she was ruining my photos. She listened though when I yelled at her that she was blinding everyone around her and that it is plain rude! Well, at least enough to find a new spot. I sure hope she turned off that flash!!!

It is so disrespectful! We were watching wishes when one guy with his dslr camera decided it was a good idea to use external lighting while video taping. It was so bright it was blinding. DH just had to put his hand so we could see immediately he shut off the light. Ironically DH had let his wife go in front of him so she could see. He did apologize when wishes was over.

I used to work in an art museum where flash photography wasn't allowed. The sad truth I learned was that only, maybe one person in a hundred had the slightest clue how to turn off the flash on their cameras.

And not a single, solitary one of them gave a **** about whether the flash was damaging the artwork or impeding other people's view of it; heck, most of them seemed to be shocked and amazed to find out that other people even existed.

I have been to a museum (actually a section of a museum) where they outlawed all photography because people couldn't be bothered to turn off their flashes, and the light from the flashes was damaging to the artwork. Now if you get a camera out at all they yell at you.

We were at WDW a couple days before Maelstrom closed and, like everyone else, wanted to get our last ride. We were in the back row. The women in front of us were being loud and annoying which was disrespectful in its own right, but the woman in front of me kept trying to take pictures of THE DARK with her iPhone. She was turning around in her seat and the flash was right in my face and almost continuous. I finally said, "STOP using your flash! It's very RUDE!" I had to be loud to be heard over her friends and of course they laughed it off like I was the one with the problem. Our ride was completely ruined and with a 75 minute wait, we didn't try again.

This happened to my husband on POTC. He ended up having to take countermeasures - after being blinded over and over he'd had enough and the next time she turned around she got to experience the flash on his phone. It did work but he wasn't happy to have to do that.

I'm a huge fan of taking pictures and video, especially on a once in a lifetime vacation!! However, I will not be taking video on the rides. I will watch Youtube for that experience for years to come. :) I don't even think I have any pictures of my older children on the rides at all on their trip, except for a few outdoor things like the carousel or train. I take pictures of the entrance to the ride, but I would rather sit and enjoy the ride itself than worrying about getting some good shots, most of which never would turn out anyways. lol

DCL doesn't allow any photography or vids in the theater shows, Tokyo Disney doesn't allow photos to be taken in the ride lines or rides.

I'm glad you posted this. We're planning on getting a GoPro for our next trip, because my husband loves to have video of our trips, but the friggin' video camera drives me nuts. I figured the GoPro wouldn't be as annoying, since he can just strap it on and go. I didn't think about the red light. I'll be sure to turn that sucker off. I don't want to be the annoying family. :goodvibes

Not even the stepchild of theme parks (Six Flags) allows it on rides. They will kick you out of the park. Same with Landry's boardwalk in Galveston.

and of course there are many guests that think Disney's no recording rules applies to everybody but them.

Same people who think the use of turn signals is optional or that speed limits are a suggestion? :lmao:

Does WDW have any no recording rules?

I know there are some attractions where they ask for no flash photos (and there's always someone who flashes anyway.)

But they don't seem to care if someone holds up a giant Ipad with bright screen the entire time.

you'd think the thread was about asking other guests to not take any video rather than just asking them to douse the bright red recording light.

We've never tried to record rides (other than EE and BTMRR), but my little brother used a GoPro last Christmas, and there were a couple of rides (I don't know which ones) told him recording was not allowed, so he turned it off. Most allowed him to record, though.

Come to think of it, they wouldn't let RnRC take off a couple of times on our last trip because someone had their phone out ready to record. Held it up until they put it away.

Good gravy. Who in the world would want to even attempt to record RnRC? Much less with a phone! Geez.

I was waiting for a ride at Six Flags over the summer, and there was a strict "no recording" policy at this park. Someone had his phone out, waiting to record the ride, and the ride attendant stopped the ride until he put it away. But what happened right after he got past the ride attendant? Yup! The phone came right back out.

Sheesh! People kill me.

Had this happen, I think they should of launched us and seen if that guy could of held that camera with one hand lol.

I take a lot of pics in the parks, but this Thanksgiving was my first time there with a GoPro. I was surprised how bright the front Red & Blue leds are, similarly for the rear red led.

Using the iPhone app, it's easy to turn the leds and the BEEP BEEP off.

To be fair, speed limits in Canada ARE a suggestion ... but turn signals are not, they are the law.

And for the record the order is ... Turn Signal, THEN brake. :P
