Gopro or Olympus TG4?

I love to use the GoPro for just strapping it on and capturing anything I'm doing. On our first cruise I attached it to my hat and just recorded as I was walking around. Yeah it was a little heavy on the head but was a lot easier than carrying something around the whole time. For general photos though I think you'd be better off with a point & shoot.

Tg 4. Reason is that the gopro does not have a zoom. You have to get the camera up to what your taking pics of. Plus having all of the acessories can be a pain for gopro. With that said, I do carry both on a cruise. The gopro is great on a mono pod for taking video of say the fireworks or the pirate party or snorkeling if it's on a monopod, but there's no beating the point and shoots or a good dslr for pictures on the ship.

tg4 and check Costco for it I just bought mine around Christmas and got an amazing discount

I'd say gopro. Still pictures have really lost their appeal for me now that I have videos to look back at our travels. But make sure you get one with the LCD screen so you can see what you are shooting. Agree the lack of zoom is an issue but the images are hi resolution so you can crop.

Here's a non DCL trip to Jamaica for reference.

I don't have one, but according to the description, the TG4 also does 1080P HD video

But how many frames per second? They shoot TV and movies with gopros sometimes. Also I've been through 2 point and shoot "waterproof/shockproof/freezeproof" cameras and they all eventually fail by letting in water. The gopro case is stout and servicable. The point and shoot is a throw away if anything gets in the memory card, charge port etc....

I am debating between these two cameras, so I'm interested in the responses here.
Is the gopro heavy/bulky to carry around?

We have a GoPro and love it! I can't speak to the other camera but we've taken our GoPro on 2 cruises and love it. It's not bulky or heavy at all. But some tips: definitely get the LCD backpack screen and a few extra batteries. When you use the LCD screen it puts a drain on the battery life so we always keep a few extra charged up and ready to go.

Here are 2 of our videos filmed with GoPro: Don't forget to update the video quality for a true idea of the clarity.

It's not terribly heavy. I personally hate selfie sticks because of the people that are more worried about their video than what's going on around them and end up whacking you with it. On our first cruise I actually attached one to my hat so I didn't have to hold it and recorded that way. To hand hold them they do have little grips that you can buy: https://shop.gopro.com/mounts/the-handler-floating-hand-grip/AFHGM-001.html

I did carry my point and shoot still though on our first one because it took better pictures than the GoPro models I had. The benefit of the GoPro really is the huge number of mounting options available.
