I decided that I wanted to surprise my mom and dad, DH, DD, and DS with dinner at Goofy's Kitchen on our first day in DL. This is kind of how I have our day going (so far): Arrive at LGB at 9:30 am, get rental car and head to Belmont Pier to see the ocean. We will stop and get some food either on the way to the pier or somewhere around the pier. I am just thinking McDonalds or Burger King, nothing real special just whatever we run into. After we leave the beach, we will stop at Food 4 Less on Katella to get our groceries for the week then it is on to our hotel. We have reservations at both Hojo and Desert Inn right now and I am still torn as to which we will land at. So we will check in and get settled. I was thinking about making the PS for around 3:30 or 4:00 pm and then we will be going into DL after dinner. So what is the best way to get to Goofy's from Hojo or Desert Inn? Is it walkable with a 6 yr old and a 4 yr old? Should we drive over? If we drive, where do we park? Thanks so much for any help.

from HOJO you walk down to the intersection and cross over to the entrance to the parks and walk through the esplande under the Mickey hat and there's the DLH. I'm not sure how long this would all be but you figure you little ones will be walking more in the parks. Plus this is a good way to get the family out for the surprise. You could just say "let's go to DTD (then when you get there), hey let's go check out the DLH grounds" hope that helps, have fun.

There is an awesome map in this forum, it has everything even where the 7-11 are!! If I can find it i'll link you to it.

If you are NOT going to the parks on that first day, with a 4 and 6 year old...I'd drive. Because otherwise you're going through the esplanade and you're surrounded by DL and DCA, and it might be harder than it should be to get them over to Goofy's Kitchen. The walk is fine (unless everyone is already exhausted and you're planning on making full use of the buffet, LOL), but the emotions of seeing Disneyland RIGHT THERE but not going in might cause meltdowns.

(of course I would suggest just going to a park, LOL)

it would be a long walk but doable ... you may want to check the times though b/c if I recall correctly from our visit last week, Goofy's kitchen is open from 7am-noon for brunch and then closes till 5:00 when it opens for dinner buffet. This may be wrong but you will want to double check. Have fun it is really a great place!! :)

I had never even thought about it being closed at some point during the day. Thank you, I will have to check that out. If we had to wait until 5 that would probably be fine, it would just give us more time to wander through DTD on our way.

We will be going into DL after dinner, so hopefully I will be able to drag the kids (and the adults!!) through the esplanade without too big of a fuss.
