I don't think you should have any problems with the time. When i was training for Alaska with team in training i was up to 20 miles at a 16 min pace and they said i would be able to finish the race without a problem. I had to drop out beacause i couldnt raise enought money 2 weeks before the race. I was greatly disappointed but i realized if i set my mind to it i could do a marathon.

My sister and i are doing the 6.5K. I tried to talk her into the 13 but she said that is pushing it. She said there is no way she could do the 13 in 2.5 hours even though i think she can. I know if i pushed myself i could.

Well I did 15 miles today (13 running and 2 walking) I finally stopped myself from running and walked a couple miles. It's hard to stop as it made my legs feel way different. I've had some serious headaches today too and I'm not sure why. I wore my hat and sunglasses so I thought that would help.

The 13k is coming up on Saturday and I can't wait. My buddy just bailed on me so it may be a solo trip to Disney after all. Only wish my family could come, but so is life. He may still go, but I don't think so.

Looks like cooler weather down there in Florida so it should be close to today and since I'll be running at night that should help. :thumbsup2

Well I needed to write to me. Today I did an 18 miler which was my first. I barely made it the 18 and my legs were really tired. Mentally I pushed myself to finish, but my body didn't hold up well. I'm freaking out now that I won't be able to make the full 26.2. I mean it's 8 more miles I have to do and my body just didn't react well. It felt bad last week on my 17 mile run too. The headache's were there again and still are as I type. I've had plenty of water and I took Sport Beans while I ran. My wife even dropped me off a PB&J sandwich during my run (Wasn't that just sweet of her?) :)

It was pretty cold today again and the weather went fron sunny to cloudy so I got sweaty and then it cooled off when the sun went away.

I did enjoy my run up until about mile 13 again. Which is why I'm leaning towards just half Marathon's if I can finish this one. :goodvibes

Chris,

How is your training coming? What is your mileage and time? Hope everthing is going well.

Things have been up and down. 2 days a week I've been running 7 miles and on my long run I did 19 miles on the 30th of November. I had to walk 7 of the miles as it was freezing outside and I had a sinus infection so that has me worried that I had to walk. Last weekend was a scheduled cut back to 7 miles so this weekend will be my first long run in a couple weeks and I'm really worried, but am going to try it just the same. Depending on how I feel I'm looking at 18-20 miles on the treadmill this weekend. We have a bunch of snow and freezing rain on the way.

My times are in the 11-12 minute mile range.

I've mostly been on the treadmill the last couple weeks too. Although I did get to run outside on Tuesday. My knees are bothering me, but I think it's the change in surface (Treadmill vs. Outside) and the cool weather may be the cause.

I still love the running and can't wait to get the Marathon over to get back to normal running miles. :rotfl2:

So it's taper time and it's really mentally tuff on me. Wanting to continue to run and eat like I have been is hard. I've run 7 miles every Tues/Thurs and on my long runs I've done 20 miles two weeks in a row and last week I did 15 miles. This week I've done a 7 miler and yesterday just a 5 miler. This weekend I'm going to do 8-10 miles and then a short 3 miles on Tuesday and hopefully a 5 miler on Thursday (Probably 3 miles as I'll be at Disney for the Marathon.)

So that's it. The time has come and I've never been more nervous. Playing sports in High School I always felt really in control of everything. Now with that long of a distance I just hope that my stomach holds up and the weather is decent.

The Finish line is here and the Marathon is ready for all us Wisher's. I can't wait. See you all in the World!!!

Good luck with the race weekend. Have a great time and enjoy the weekend. Post how you did and relax.

Amanda

Finished my last run at home last night and had some stomach issues (Which hasn't happened in a while.) So one of my biggest worries about the marathon happened to me last night.

Anywho everything is packed except my charges and I leave tomorrow. A couple days on my own in the world to clear my mind and then the family arrives.

I won't be doing any Wish events, but if I see the shirts I will try and introduce myself.

Good luck in the Marathon everyone! I look forward to you passing me by! :rotfl:

Well this is my Marathon trip report for 2008. I started out flying down by myself and taking a couple days to get used to the weather. Spent Thrusday doing a 4.5 mile run. Getting used to the weather was pretty easy as I love the heat.

The Expo was pretty crazy. Went and waited in line for an hour just to get my Race number, then into a line to get my pin. What I didn't know was you needed to confirm your chip so I had to go and get my chip back at the room which was a huge hassle. First I went down and got my shirt which was rather easy and then tried to look around. Which was next to impossible. So I went and got my chip had it verified and then looked around the expo.

As for the Marathon I got up at 3:10 had my two Peanut Butter sandwiches had my shower and then off to the busses. Got on the last bus at Pop I believe for the runners around 4:10 and it was off the show. Got to EPCOT and was able to relax and get myself together.

They kept calling for people to come to the start so finally I listened and headed that way. Man it's a long walk to the start. They started the Opening Ceremony's as I was walking and rather than push myself into my corral I went all the way to the back. So everyone did the 15 second countdown and off the fireworks went and it was time to go, or so I thought. After waiting and waiting it took about 10-11 minutes to get to the start, but eventually I got there.

Off I went and I felt great. I was trying to run, but really there was no where to go. I hardly felt like I was running at all and the clock showed it. My first mile was 12:43.

Mile 2 picked up for me as I did a 11:31. It was rather cool to enter through the EPCOT parking entrance.

Stopped for water so mile 3 took me a bit longer at 12:55. Entering EPCOT was awesome. This is my favorite park and heading towards Spaceship earth was a treat.

Mile 4 took me a bit longer still at 13:12. I had to use the restroom in Norway and going off the course a little bit took me a little bit of time. The behind the scenes stuff was really neat. Seeing where the workers come in was also rather fun for me.

Mile 5 was 12:25 and this was the first I saw my family. I stopped and gave my wife and daughter a kiss and told them I loved them and back onto the course I went.

Mile 6 was pretty uneventful and I ran it at 11:51.
Mile 7 was a long straight run and took me 11:52. Still no room to go anywhere, but I didn't pick up my pace that's for certain.
Mile 8 took me 12:02.

Now mile 9 and 10 took me 24:36 combined. I missed the mile 9 marker. So many peope at the TTC I missed the sign. I did find my family and stopped to say hello. Luckily I had room as it was a tight fit.

Heading into the Magic Kingdom was awesome. Heading in the back way which I had never seen in all my trips was pretty cool then it was onto Main Street. A nice lady told me HEY YOUR SHOE IS UNTIED. :worship: So I stopped and tied my shoe on main street. Then it was a right into tomorrowland and part of the way through fantasyland. Then it was a left into the castle where Ariel was throwing me kisses and they were playing the horns which I thought was awesome. Then to the right into Liberty square and then onto Frontierland. Going through the backstage here was equally as cool. Captain Jack and his fellow Pirates were taking pictures and he pointed at me as I ran by. Of course I pointed back and just past that was where they held all the floats for the Parades. Man was that awesome to see. This mile took me 13:15. Lots of scenary.

I decided between mile 11-12 I was having my Peanut Butter sandwich so I started walking. There wasn't much room on this mile either. People are on top of eachother through here, but I tried to stay as far to the right as I could. This mile took me 13:26.

I knew I would see my family for the last time through here so I kept looking and looking. They should have been at the Grand Floridian and they weren't. I thought well maybe they will be at the Poly. They weren't. So at this point I was upset that I wouldn't see them again. Just before the 13 mile marker I found them. It was a huge boost too. This mile took me 13:12.

Not far from that I hit the half-way point in 2 hours and 44 minutes. Not bad for my first Marathon, but I knew the hard part was still to come.

Mile 14-16 were the toughest on me. There isn't much to see and I thought at this point I'd be perfectly fine. I wasn't. I stopped at each drink area and grabbed a banana.

Mile 14 took me 13:49, Mile 15 14:05. I walked the majority of both of these miles and stopped to use the restroom. Mile 16 I picked it up a bit and did 11:49. It had been a while since I did a mile under 12 minutes so I was excited.

Mile 17 I got some of that stuff to put on your muscles and put that on. I believe I stopped for a drink and some food in here, but I could be wrong. Took me 12:53 through here.

Mile 18 was pretty uneventful and I walked it. Took me 14:43. My times were way down from what I expected too. Animal Kingdom was fun to run through to see the tree and Expedition Everest was pretty cool.

Mile 19 took me 13:09 and Mile 20 took me 14:10. Mile 21 took me 13:46. Alot of water stops in here and the one food stope. It was hard to run through mile 20 and 21 so I did a little running and a little walking for these 3 miles.

Mile 22 was my one mile over the 16 minute mile pace. I stopped for a drink and to use the restroom and had to wait. I didn't want to pull up a tree so to speak as there were plenty of volunteers so I waited in line. This mile took me 17:19.

Mile 23 brought us into MGM/Hollywood Studios. I mostly walked through here to be honest. Took me 14:24.

Mile 24 took me 14:57. I talked to my wife on the phone and she asked where I was. I said close honey. I checked the clock and saw that 6 hours was getting pretty close.

So for the first time in miles I took off and did an 11:30. I passed so many people through here it wasn't funny. The boardwalk was a blur as I ran past people. I just knew I wanted to make it under 6 hours in clock time. This brought us back into EPCOT and through the backstage area which was again a real treat. Came out in the UK and I slowed down a bit to a point of walking. This mile took me 13:06. Somewhere in here I caught a glimpse of the medal in which I only kept seeing the ears.

I took off for that last .2 and did it in 2:40 for a total of 5:45:02 for my chip time and 5:55:45 for my Clock time. But I made it. I had completed a Marathon. I couldn't believe it. I cried. Caught myself and cried again. Luckily I had time to compose myself before I got to my family. I still was a bit teary eyed, but still. I was so proud of myself. I could see my wife was proud too. Each time I saw her it was a boost.

So I ended up walking more that I wanted to, but I still Finished in a decent time. Gives me something to shoot for next year. :thumbsup2

The medal is awesome and well worth the work. I feel so proud of myself and really all the spectators out there and the volunteers helped me so much. Thank you all!

I want to continue this thread as a quest for other races and other Marathons as well as a way to keep track of myself so I hope you will stop by sometime!

Congratulations!! Thanks for the update. You are an inspiration and motivation for those who want to do the marathon but aren't ready to do it yet. See you there next year.

Amanda

When we were done the 1/2 we all met just after the finish line. I was 10 min behind my daughter and DH. I'm a walker, they jog. The always wait for me and we had a group hug and shed a tear too.

I almost lost it when I got my medal. A year of work and we made. Well worth the effort.
