I am running the Wine and Dine half on November 10th and my weekend running schedule for the Goofy challenge does not line up very well with the race. So, experienced runners....can you help with a schedule adjustment? Here is my current training plan for the week before and the week after the W & D..

Oct. 30 45 min run
Nov. 1 45 min run
Nov. 3 6 miles run

Nov. 6 45 min run
Nov. 8 45 min run
Nov. 10 8.5 mile walk (this is race night for Wine and Dine)
Nov. 11 20 miles run/walk

Nov. 13 45 min run
Nov. 15 45 min. run
Nov. 17 6 miles run

I was thinking that I could do more the week before the race. I will not be "racing" at W and D....just having a fun race. Any advice would be appreciated. I would like to get my schedule in order.

I wouldn't really worry about making any adjustments. Do the Wine & Dine, enjoy yourself afterwards, and pick back up again on Tuesday. You're not going to hurt your training by missing one long run two months before Goofy. 20 miles seems like a lot that far out too, but that's another discussion. :)

I should have mentioned in my first post that I have been running just 2 years in October and this will be my first marathon. So the longer runs scare me and I hate to miss one.....Also should mention that I am an older runner (58)

Personally, I would move it to the next week and skip what was originally scheduled. It is your first Marathon, and you need that mileage in training to see how you bounce back. You should recover after the Wine & Dine, just take that a bit easy. BTW - you are not an older runner! You are still young!! :thumbsup2

Sorry I'm coming a little late to the thread. I've never done a marathon or Goofy but I have done 5 half marathons and worked with Galloways plans before. If I was in this situation, looking at the Goofy schedule, I would run the W&D, I would even consider doing it somewhere in between long run pace and race pace. The next weekend, I would only do the 20 mile long run/walk (I would skip the back to back runs). Then I would move the final 2 long runs back a week doing them Dec. 8-9 and Dec 29-30. Unfortunately that only gives you a 2 week taper before the race. So I might consider doing 22 and 24 instead of 23 and 26 for the long runs.

I would bag the 20 and have fun in the W&D. But I would also just adjust the following two run distances down. So your 23 miler becomes a 20 miler and the 26 miler is now a 23 miler and just call it good.

Thanks for all your responses. One thing I remembered is that we will be doing tons of walking while in FL at the parks. So while I won't be doing a long scheduled walk, I will still be on my feet a long time. I will adjust my mileage for last two long runs and hope for the best in January. I am hoping just to finish both races in the upright position!

You will. If you follow Jeff Galloway's intervals determining the best one for you using the magic mile, and get up to 20 miles or beyond for your longest run, you will be fine. I won't say it will be the most fun experience you will ever have, but once you see the finish line, and cross it, you will have the best feeling! :)
