posting something on a public board of nearly 100,000 members is bound to get replies where not all of them will agree (whether it's this post or another). That's the reality of a message board...everyone is going to have a different opinion or perspective and if it's not something a person wants for their thread, their best bet is to simply not post it. I'm not trying to down the OP at all, just pointing out the reality of posting ANYTHING on a message board this large.

You are right, Mary, about posting on a board this large. BUT we really DO try to keep things friendly on this board. And I think that in this case, people were not just expressing opinions, they were criticizing the OP for what she did, should have done, will do in the future. Personally, I don't think those kinds of posts were necessary.

From our Guidelines for Posting:
We ask that everyone conduct himself or herself with respect when speaking to other people. It is okay to disagree, as long as the discussion remains respectful of the feelings of others.

There have been some posts on this thread that have made me wonder :scratchin: if everyone always thinks in these terms when posting - either "for" or "against" a point.

Perhaps when posting we should think What Would Disney Do? :smickey: before we hit the "Submit Reply" button.

Read the positive, ignore the negatives. That is the great thing about discussion threads, you have a choice what you can read. That is why I like them so much :cool1:

And by the way, I would have reacted the exact same way as you :)

I am glad the end turned out ok for you.

I am thinking my post was misunderstood, because I DO feel bad for the OP, and it was wrong for the cashier to not follow policy. I was also very glad that she handled it in the way she did, and I am happy that she will be getting a climber soon. Hopefully, it will be even BETTER than the one she didn't get.

My problem was not with the OP, it was with other posters who were really berating the other shopper, who was not at fault either. She just followed what the cashier told her. Unless you have bought a large item from that store, you wouldn't know the procedure. As some said, other thrift stores have an OPPOSITE procedure. I just didn't see what commenting on the character and intentions of someone totally unkown to us was doing to help the OP. :confused3

I completely agree. I was just commenting on the implication made by some that people were all supposed to be in complete agreement. I do agree that some of the posts were unnecessary (I wasn't questioning that). If people disagree, it can be done so tactfully. But I was just making a point that it's kind of unrealistic to post on a board this size and expect everyone to be in agreement with the OP (not necessarily this OP, but any OP). But all disagreements should be done respectfully. :)

Marsha, I fully agree with you as well. I have really have nothing to add to what you said.
