Goods/Bads of America West?

Hi All,

We are long time veterans of Delta Express Airlines for our travels from Columbus to DisneyWorld but decided to go with a good rate from America West (with direct flights) for our September trip. This will be our first time to fly with them...If you could share any suggestions of things to watch out for etc or positive experiences...it would be much appreciated!

I fly America West regularly and have to say that they are a quality airline. They had some issues with on time departures and arrivals for a while, but they are now number 1 in the country in that respect after devoting some time and effort to the problem.

One tip is to bring your own headsets. Standard ones work on the plane.

I recently booked Southwest for our trip at a good rate, but two days later America West reduced its rate as well and it is too late to change. On America West we would have assigned seats, a movie, and a hot meal.

DH and DS flew to Las Vegas and Arizona on America West 2 years ago in October- we will NEVER fly them again. The airplane trip was horrible, delays after delays, and they lost DS and DH's luggage TWICE!! Their itineray was from CT to NV, NV to AZ and AZ to CT. They were going to a wedding, and after the airline lost the luggage on the CT to NV leg, I advised DH to keep wedding clothes in his carryon- good thing I did, as they lost luggage from NV to AZ where the wedding was. Both of his stays were 3-4 days in each destination, and he didn't get his luggage until late the second day of each leg. The flight home was 2 hours late, getting in at 2 AM instead of midnight- DS was only 4 at the time- the flight times were less than desirable- but it was the cheapest flights- we will NEVER fly them again. I knew I should have never left Delta!

We too had issues with them several years ago, delayed flights, over booking, saying we had to fly standby when we had assigned seating and a ticket.... can I just say nightmare!! but just flew them recently and they seem to have cleaned up their act. Left on time and arrived early at destination actually. They are now rated #1 as another poster stated for on-time arrivals, so they must be doing something right/better than in the past.

I too was totally disgusted with them at one point, but if they continue with good service and give me the better fare, I'll use them again. I think at some point in time, all the airlines have managed to anger travelers. I use Delta too and find them reliable, but I haven't found their employees always to be the most pleasant...and before I get tongue lashed for that statement, I don't mean ALL their employees
