I have to ask....

For you veteran Disers, I think half the fun of going on vacation is getting all those yummy goodies that are all around the park, and all the wonderful restaurants you can't go to everyday.

My question is this...how many of you come back heavier than when you left, or does all that walking and sweating in the heat pretty much burn itl off?

Last June we were there for 13 days. We ate & ate & walked & walked!

DH ate MORE then me, we walked about the same amount & he LOST 2 pounds & I had GAINED 4 pounds!!!!!!

Go figure!!!

Last year, when we went, I was still doing Atkins. I stayed on Atkins, for 2 meals a day and a NON Atkins meal once a day. I also allowed myself ONE of those yummy fanastic treats daily!!! There is not point in killing a diet that you have worked hard on and no point in depriving yourself either. I found that moderation was the key for me. I figured that I would have gained a few pounds but it was worth it. When I got home I was happily suprised that I had lost 4 pounds!!!

When I went after Thanksgiving, I managed to actually lose weight while at WDW. We eat counter service for most meals so I get sick of french fries pretty quickly so there is the nice alternative of the carrots or just getting a sandwhich. If you're going mid summer, I definitely think that you could sweat off at least some of the extras.

We walk enough that we never gain weight. As a matter of fact, on our last trip, my wife brought shorts that she couldn't fit into early in the week. Later in the week, they fit great!!

The food in Disney World has calories?!?

Gee, you would think in the most magical place on earth they could do something about that!:hyper:

Have a great trip!

In february I went for 5 nights. I ate and ate and ate and ate coupled with lots of walking. At the end of the trip I lost 6 pounds.

My experience has always been that we walk enough to counteract any additional calories that those yummy treats contain. I either come back at the same weight or even a couple pounds lighter. Just one more reason that I love Disney!

I won't post this on the WISH board ;) , but I don't diet while at WDW. Just a personal rule of mine! :teeth: After all the walking I usually still end up gaining three to five pounds. I just worry about it when I get home. We eat good while on vacation! Ice cream with the kids, priceless! :Pinkbounc

i think someof it depends on what time of year you go too...sweating some of those calories off! We went in Aug last year and it was the best diet ever I lost 5 lbs in 4 days bc of the heat and walking!

I think it varies with each individual, depending on many factors. I work out every day at home, eat healthy foods, etc. Dh never works out, eats tons of snacks. At WDW, we endulge in great meals, etc. . Even with all the walking, I gain 2-3 lbs. and Dh either stays the same or loses a couple of pounds. :D Go figure!
Indulging in all the wonderful food is a big part of WDW for us, so it's worth a few pounds.

I have never gained any weight and I love to eat while I'm there. Especially those rice krispy treats! And then there's the ice cream sundaes and Beaches and cream and uh oh. Yeah back to your question no, never gained any weight

I try and lose 10LBS before our trip so I can gain it back when we go. This allows me not to feel guilty when we get back. It works great if you can lose the weight before you go.
Good Luck and have a great time!
ADP :D

I am one of the unlucky ones who gained weight. On our last vacation we were gone for 10 days, but only at the parks for 5 days....So the walking wasn't equal to the eating out. And we were there in February ~ so there was no sweating off calories.

I brought home 8 lbs as a souvenier...and I'm still trying to get rid of it!

All the walking I do in WDW is way less exercise than I normally do at home. And as for the food...well, lets just say I eat waaaayyy more when Im on vacation. Thats what vacation is all about to me. ;) So yes, I do usually gain about 5+ lbs when on vacation. But as soon as I get home and back to my usual diet & exercise routine, it comes right off.

i walked and walked and walked- and hated all the walking. It was August and I dont think I ever used a bathroom to pee for the entire day, only at night- I gained 5lbs, but I think a large part of the problem had nothing to do with what I ate, I just wasnt consuming enough water. Be sure to drink LOTS of water at Disney World!!! And dont go by the scale the day after you come home, wait a day or 2 and then get on. It will make a difference.

We always eat right at home, but I'll be darned if I'm going to DW and see all those yummy treats and not eat what I want, it's vacation after all....We always walk so much and I usually stay at the same weight or lose a pound or 2. I take the stairs when I have to option and move at a fairly fast pace. Gotta have those Mickey Bars!!:teeth:

I've been wondering what I am going to do about dieting while there. I wanted to lose weight and asked my DH for some incentives. He came back to me with a trip to WDW in September if I reach my first goal by a certain date and a Disney Cruise next year if I reach my second goal by first part of 2005. So if I get to WDW in September I still have to be really careful because I am only half way to the cruise!!! By the way I am half way to my first goal, so we get to book our reservations now. I'd like to stay at CBR again because I enjoyed the mile walk around the resort each night (tried to do it twice each day) and I think that along with the daily walking in the parks, it will allow me to keep the weight off, but still enjoy a goodie now and then!!! Anybody know if other resorts have that nice paved walkway around the resort? There were always people running it or walking it so I guess it is pretty popular!:hyper:

Hi SarahJ,
Coronado Springs is a beautiful resort to walk around in the evening too! They have beautiful walkways that go around the whole resort and the scenery is gorgeous. I don't know the exact distance, but I'd guess it's at least 1 mile.::yes::
