Goodie bag ideas for 9-10 year olds..

I usually buy things that go with the theme of the party.

Bowling is a little tough, though!

For 10 year olds (and not considering theme):

smencil (Meijer has some for $1.11 each right now)
some kind of goo
rubber bouncy ball
fake mustache
vampire teeth
pack of garbage pail kids cards

Don't mean to center you out, other things like gold fish etc too Don't they get that at home? And water bottles, we have so many of those from different events my cupboard is busting...

See all that stuff would either sit in the bag it came from or me just throwing it out.

I think you could use your money on a gift cards , the best favour my son got was a $5.00 gift card to the Dairy Queen. Something we would actually use. It could be McDonald even Walmart ....then it wouldn't be wasted.

what is wrong with a small bag of candy? I have so manty cheap water bottles since it seems to be the *right* thing to give..I am throwing them away too. Candy.they can eat, share with the family (if they wish) and then it is gone

:thumbsup2 Love it --- like I said above, bought journals for the girls with a nail file to match - had already bought funDip and they get a coupon for bowling game, so, mcdonald's and the like work too! :)

Nothing wrong with it -- I was trying to avoid the 'junk' toys honestly.

Those finger lights are pretty popular here and you can get them at dollar tree for five for a dollar. Usually a couple don't work, but still not a bad price.

Something else that has become pretty popular is origami. You could print out instructions for something easy and then give a few pieces of paper. Or you coudl print out instructions on how to make a ring out of a dollar bill and put a dollar with it.

What are finger lights - you mean glow sticks, etc?

I'm a rebel without a cause. No goodie bags! Parents unite.......down with goodie bags! You've given the kids entertainment (bowling) and probably some food and cake. Who thought of this whole goodie bag thing anyway?:)

I'm guilty of this lol

My soon to be 8 and 10 year olds always have a joint party, as their birthdays are 4 days apart. I like to theme them, and this year we are going with pirates (goes along with the pool party theme). I am thinking of buying a couple dozen books with pirate themes from Book Closeouts and letting them pick a book or two to take home. No candy, no junky toys, something the parents might appreciate. (The best gift I ever sent home was the toothbrush after an energetic Willy Wonka party!)

Hmmm .. having a bowling party - do I not give anything when they leave ... seems sorta rude. :)

You giving them a bowling party. :confused3
Which you are paying for....

As a parent, 99% of goody bag items go in the trash. I don't do them. I don't care what the other parents think. And from what my friends say, they are happy not to get goody bags too.

I honestly hate all those goodie bags with the 'icky' toys and stuff in them. My daughter will be 10 - having mixture of boys and girls for a bowling party.

I already purchased some journals for the girls...
At this age, I hate putting all candy in.

Suggestions?

How much do u want to spend?
I do goody bags but try and give something kids will use and want.

I have given $5 gift cards to local ice cream and yogurt places for gifts.

I helped my friend with her daughters 11th birthday party just over 3 weeks ago. In the goodie bags we put a mini gel pen, a small notepad, a lollipop and a piece of cake. The girls also all got a lipgloss and a bead bracelet and the boys all got a puzzle keyring and pair of glasses with eyeballs painted on them. Hope some of this gives you a few ideas! :)

The last time my daughter had a friends party, she was 10. Since I sew, I made pillowcases with snowman fabric (and they had a contrasting color band on the end). This video shows how to make them: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TAomYjHzUQk They took about 10 minutes each to make and use about one yard of fabric (which I already had in my huge fabric stash anyway). If you have basic sewing skills you can do this and you can get cute fabrics to match the season or party theme on sale at joann with a 40% off coupon.

The kids loved them, and the Mom's told me that THEY loved them too.

It is going to be spring, how about getting frisbees for the boys and taping the coupon to it? If you got the girls a journal and nail file, add a glow stick for the boys and tape that on too.

I hate the goodie bags, but if you insisted on doing one, this is the best idea so far IMHO.

Chem light sticks are good for guys at that age or a small flashlight--at that age my boys always had a "use" for a flashlight.

No, they're little led lights that have a stretchy band that goes over your finger. They come in packs of five (green, blue, red, yellow, and white) so you can put one on each finger, but my son and his friends love them and use just one. There's a local arcade/skating rink/laser tag/etc place here that sells them and all the kids are running around with them on their fingers.

To chime in:

My son loves goodie bags. As far as I can remember, he's used most of the stuff he's got in them. I don't throw any of it away unless he doesn't like it/doesn't want it. Well, it eventually may get thrown away, but not right away.

He has a collection of bouncy balls in a jar, so he loves getting them. Pens/pencils are used, candy is either eaten or thrown away, depending on if he likes it. Loves paper airplanes and has got several in goodie bags. Uses little notebooks, etc.

I went with the journal and nail file, along w/ a blow pop, fundip, airhead candy and the bowling coupon.

For the boys, I need 5 gifts, I like frisbee idea and the flashlight idea - it's great!
Thanks!

I'm a fan of one good gift instead of a goodie bag. Last year for the medieval party I found a good deal on plastic swords with scabbards. That's all they got. Even the girls loved them. I've also done Lego party favor sets and foam water shooters.

For DD's goodie bags, we usually try to do a book and lego set that go with the theme. For example:
party at the fire station - book about firefighters (if siblings were going, I made sure to give 2 different books, so they wouldn't have duplicates in the house) and a little firefighter Lego set. Cost less than $10/bag.

game night at pizza place - board game. Got them on sale around Christmas - around $5 each DD turned 4 that year - many of them were chutes and ladders, candyland, boggle jr type games... many of the kids had some, but everyone was able to grab one they didn't have yet.

party at SkyZone, an indoor trampoline park - confetti popcorn (theme was jumpin') from a local gourmet popcorn place & a Lego keychain - I made the keychains. I gave extra goodie bags to the employees (high school /college aged kids, and they were SO excited!) to thank them for their help with the party. They were fighting over the keychains and all enjoying the popcorn when we left. Popcorn was only $1/bag (sample size - about a sandwich bag full), and keychain supplies cost about $10.

For a bowling party, you could make them some bottlecap necklaces (girls)/bracelets (boys) with a couple of bottlecap charms for each kid - they can change them out because of the magnet. You can also give them as prizes - whoever gets a strike gets a special one, etc... DD's next party will probably be a bowling party (10th - just seems to fit well) and that's what I'm doing with a book - maybe a Cam Jansen mystery (birthday mystery, snowy day - her birthday is in winter)or some kind of book that themes with bowling nicely (the Million Dollar Strike by Dan Gutman)... If you want more details on how to make the bottlecap necklaces/bracelets, pm me and I'll send you a link to a tutorial.

HTH! :goodvibes
