Goodbye to The Trip...

You guys are so fun! I know we're going to miss doing The Trip each week [after February] but new and exciting things are always great too!

T, JL, and I were talking last week about how bored everyone would be if we were all the same - can you imagine? Different is good, in my opinion, even when we don't agree on all things because that's what makes conversation interesting, right? Again, if we all agreed on every point, that would make a real boring show. The 3 of us are all so different, but the same in many ways too. It's fun that you're all looking forward to what's coming up on the horizon; we hope you'll love it!

On another note, I still believe that luggage magically appears in your Resort room when you use DME! :duck:

It's like I always say - that is why they make 31 flavors of ice cream - While I enjoy all the podcasts I wouldn't want all of them to feel like The Trip or like the Universal show, etc.

I was very glad to hear when they made the announcement that you three would still be doing some things together.

Here ya' go!

That's pretty neat - seems similar to something they would have covered in one of the "segments" after the WDW podcast - though the good part of those was the back-and-forth between the participants.

BWT - the progress in Liberty Square through Frontierland from Haunted Mansion to Big Thunder isn't only a geographical trip but also through time with the start at Liberty Tree Tavern being set during colonial times/time of independance (mid to late 1700s) and then getting into the mid 1800s and the time of Davy Crockett, etc. and then into the gold rush

Yes, I thought about that with the timing too, Max. But as I get older, I wonder if some of the things I THINK I know and I THINK I've heard are real, or only the voices in my HEAD! :rotfl:

I sincerely doubt they will be replacing the longer shows for this, I think this is the "new direction and new ways of delivering content and info" they were referring to when they said the Trip is retiring.
But that's exactly what they seem to be doing with videos like this if this is what is "replacing" The Trip.

I do subscribe to the YouTube channel but I don't have notifications turned on because I don't want an email every time they add a new video. I already get 100 emails a day. And I don't have time to watch a bunch of videos. That's why I love the podcasts. I understand that others feel differently, though. I'm just sorry to see the podcast go away. I wouldn't mind it quite as much if the new content also was available on the iTunes feed so I could listen in the car, but Craig has already addressed that with the Daily Fix so I'm guessing it won't happen with this new stuff either.

I am kind of disappointed, though, because back when the show first went to video, Pete repeatedly said they wouldn't alienate those who listen rather than watch, but that seems to be what is starting to happen little by little as they do more and more video work.

Well, can't speak for the voices in your head but there are definitely stories that have developed over the years, often by CMs, which then take on a life of their own and start to be thought of as true when they really aren't.

One of my favorite is that Cinderella's Castle can be disassembled in the event of a major hurricane or other event coming through which got started as the high tower section was installed as a single unit (so thoughts are it could be un-installed) but it can't

Yep, had heard "the castle one" too, it was refuted by the guide on my 1 "behind the scenes" day long 2-park tour many years ao (90's). I had also heard about it in connection with my work in emergency management, believe it or not. :)

Was going to get a t-shirt years ago that said "The voices in my head told me they don't like you!" and wear it around somebody who thought they were Dr. Freud, and used to try and "psychobabble" me. ROTFL

I wish that the podcasts would stop relying so much on Facebook for comments, suggestions, polls,
I understand why they do that since that is by far the #1 way that people communicate today. For comments and suggestions, though, you can easily contact them through the website. I sent a message yesterday and Teresa replied to me within a few hours. They definitely check those regularly.

That's fair, but oftentimes I will start to watch a podcast (it happens/happened on The Trip more so than the other podcasts), where the entire topic is derived from a question that they posed on FB and from comments received on FB. "We asked you for your thoughts on how to keep the magic alive, and we will read you some of the responses we got". And I wouldn't even know that the question had been posed or that I could add a comment or suggestion because I never saw The Trip FB page. Sending an email to the team only works if you know what it is that they are asking. Given that there is an entire Board here dedicated to The Dis, it seems that whatever questions they are posing over there should be replicated here. Just as was done with the "Skipper Canteen Taking On Water" blog. It appeared as a thread here, and was also a blog elsewhere.

This is true. They do draw from their social media followers on facebook and twitter. If you don't follow them on social media, you are going to miss stuff. I just learned today that I'm missing stuff by not getting notifications from the YouTube channel.

My advice would be to go to the DIS Unplugged suggestion thread and post your issue there:http://www.disboards.com/threads/di...and-suggestions.3383932/page-30#post-55095153

Thank you JL, TE, JG, DW, & CW - I really enjoyed The Trip. I was with you since Day 1 and was disappointed when Pete announced the change. I hope the change allows me to still hear/interact with each of you. After so many episodes it feels as if I am losing touch with family.

Thread drift alert...but I wish that the podcasts would stop relying so much on Facebook for comments, suggestions, polls, etc. There are a lot of us out there who don't use Facebook.

I logged in just to like this.

I do have Twitter, but I'm not on it constantly as I don't have a smartphone. (I do have an iPod touch and a Kindle with 4G -- I'm not a total Luddite.) Sometimes I wonder if I should get a Facebook account just for entering giveaways, etc. Haven't caved yet. Funny, if you Google "Should I join Facebook?" most of the hits are pages telling you why you should quit Facebook.

After viewing the Trip today - We missed you Teresa - I wanted to write this early as I know this thread will be inundated in the next two weeks:
I would like to thank all those involved for all the episodes of The Trip I've watched lo this past year. I found some to be funny, others informative, a few thought provoking and a couple somewhat plodding at times, but nonetheless I watched a good many episodes and always looked forward to the next one. Teresa was a hoot with her views and stories of she and her family on past vacations and incidents. JL was/is terrific with getting to the nitty gritty on the show's themes and places they visited. I give the ladies a lot of credit for opening up about their personal lives as it would relate to some of their topics. And I even thought Dustin, at times, would be the "straw to stir the drink" and get Teresa and JL energized on whatever topic they were talking about. (This happened several times.). My favorite episodes were when you filmed the topics/reviews on site. (Your reactions were priceless on many occasions.)
When they announced the addition of Jackie for 2016, I thought it would give the show a different energy by adding her opinions, experiences and perspectives toward the topics being discussed. I think Jackie is delightful when she gets her 2 minutes on the Disunplugged. You can tell Jackie is that person when she comes into a room, she might not enter with a BAM but you will know she is there from her positive vibes that eventually overtake you.
I understand there were many personal and professional time commitments outside the show that affected the decision to end the show, which makes me even more of the crew. Thank you and We will miss the show.

Just want to echo everything that's been said. But I think there's more.

JL, Teresa and Jackie bring a perspective that the rest of the team (except maybe Julie) is missing. They are Moms, first and foremost. They are in charge of planning trips for the whole family, and they usually work on a limited budget. Most everyone else on the team is single or childless. I think having this perspective is what makes The Trip so relevant and approachable to many of us. I'll be sad to see them go and even sadder if that perspective is not blended into the other shows.

Having only just found The Trip and starting to listen to back issues of podcasts to get my Disney fix on my drive to work, imagine my surprise when Pete announced it was going to be no more.
Thanks team for the great fun and tips. You said something else was in the planning and I wish you loads of good luck.

Thanks to JL, Teresa, Jackie & the team for this podcast. I have been a long time listener from the UK and it can be so interesting to hear whats going on in Orlando away from the Disney & Universal bubble.

I found the Trip just a few months ago and have looked forward to every episode since. It provided me some unique insights into WDW and surrounding areas, and many of the interactions between JL, Teresa, and Jackie had me absolutely cracking up! I was sorry to hear that the Trip is going off the air, and will miss it very much. Though I'm looking forward to seeing the projects that the Trip team members have coming in the future. A big THANK YOU to all of you for all of the energy you've put into this podcast. Very much appreciated.

We're a week out and I'm already sad that I'm going to probably miss the tail end of the final episode of The Trip...or if they schedule a new Wednesday webinar...I may miss the whole thing! I know - I know...better to have a job! But still...it's so much fun to watch live. I'm going to miss my Wednesday show, even if I don't always get to see all of it, and I know my coworkers will be sad that they'll be down to one day a week where I'm laughing like a fool at my desk and hushing them because "my show is on!" (work from home for the Uni show)

I actually asked that they do capcones when the trip first debuted so I'm glad they're getting around to it!
I think it's a neat choice as the final episode since it was where JL worked before joining the DIS. I think she probably wanted some time to pass before she went back.
