Well, the new new owners of Church Street have decided it's time to say goodbye to Rosie O'Grady's. I never even actually went there but seeing the planes flying by advertising Rosie's always seemed a part of a trip to Orlando.

I also see they closed Orchid Garden. I hope Disney or Universal is smart enough to buy the interior and move it. After the Cheyenne Saloon, Orchid garden is the most splendiferous interior space in Orlando (and I include WDW and Universal in that reckoning).

Oh WOW I can't believe it! I agree with Kelly the architecture in these halls are absolutely stunning! We were there 2 years ago for DH birthday and had a ball.It was Dec. 20th and the Orchid Gardens were beautifully "dressed" for Christmas! My DH was even given the garter from one of the can-can dancers at Rosie O'Grady's.....wow I hope they do something really nice with these buildings.:(

It definitely looks like the end of an era for this fine downtown attraction (albeit not in the last couple of years). However, I had a meeting there last week and it still sounds as if the new owners plan to keep at least part of the place running (Cheyenne Saloon remains open even now), while the downtown development area are still anxious to see some kind of attraction in place while much of the rest of the district is getting quite a revamp. I think it is a case of 'watch this space' over the next few months while they work out the best all-round scenario for Church Street.

Incidentally, the downtown area as a whole is well worth visiting. There are some great new restaurants (Lake Eola Yacht Club, Concha Me Crazy and Metro Espresso) along Lake Eola, a few interesting new stores and a couple of excellent boutique hotels (Veranda Inn and Eo Inn), in addition to some of the larger-scale development of the Orange County History Center and the Grand Bohemian Hotel. The free Lymmo bus service around the whole downtown area is a great service, too. Big wheels are in motion here, and I think there is a lot more revitalisation to come from downtown Orlando, irrespective of what happens at Church Street.

I agree it was a well designed building but found the parking etc and immediate surrounding areas quite intimidating from a tourists point of view, not at all family friendly.
Did I not see one that had closed down in Vegas once ??

As for the "shows" I think they'd had their day, in recent years it seemed Rosies hosted every local "Sporting" events party, not the best mix with tourists.

I don't know what they'll do but with all the other evening entertainments at WDW Universal and on I drive, pulling in punters is going to need a bit more than Rosies offered.

Then what do I know I, m just a fat tourist :D
