Goodbye Main Street Bakery....

Ooh, ooh, can I play? I am a little apprehensive; worried my ham and cheese and egg croissant sandwiches won't make it onto the new menu and we're stuck with cold cardboard, like in most sbux I've been in. BUT, the real worry is...

Wait for it...

WHAT IF THEY DON'T ACCEPT THE DINING PLAN??!! :0

I think that I'm one of the few that's disappointed...that these Starbucks additions won't be done by my next trip in January. ;) Personally, I'm a fan of Starbucks and Disney...so the blending off both is just more convenient than ever. I've had the pleasure of checking out the Fiddler, Fifer & Practical cafe many a time at Disney California Adventure and have enjoyed the classic frappucinos other Starbuck locations have offered for years. If FF&P is a preview of what is to come to WDW, I'm excited for what is to come! :thumbsup2

While I understand that the Main Street Bakery is a pilgrimage that is part of many other guests' vacations, we must realize that there are alternatives just a little bit further down the turn of the century street we all know. It just may be a little more of a walk, but if your heart is so set on something, you must be willing to go the distance to reach your Main Street Bakery favorites. Otherwise, you need to face the reality that these changes are going to happen with out you being a patron. :duck:

I've made many posts on other threads about people complaining about the past disappearing at their favorite Disney locations both on the east and west coasts. If we all had this mentality, there would be no progress. Many people have their arguments that the Sbux brand won't fit into the story that is Main Street U.S.A. ...Disney knows what they'e doing. :rolleyes2

I can't help but laugh at those who worry about branding inside a Disney park. Disney may be making the big bucks, but with all those sponsors it has for its restaurants and attractions, so can we really point out and act as if this was a first? It's not like they'd be projecting the Stabucks logo on Cinderella's castle like the Siemens logo is on Spaceship Earth after Illuminations. If all companies ran this way, we wouldn't be seeing that Disney merchandise people purchase at their local WalMart/Target before a trip. ::yes::

This thread is fn and exciting to read, especially those who are saying they'll miss they're favorite things of yesteryear even though it's just an "adjustment" in reality. I'm looking forward to what develops with this thread. popcorn::

In a very passive agressive way, I'll just leave saying "grown ups should be able to handle change." :rolleyes1

Disney California Adventure. The place where a themed Starbucks location HAS opened, in a lovely location, that has benefited the park.

Hey bumbershoot!

I wonder if they will keep the integrity of the Main Street Bakery though? Do we know that? I just don't want Starbucks icons everywhere. Looks like there were photo's posted with little to no starbucks signs or maybe subdued signs. I am not a fan of starbucks, I personally think the taste is more bitter. I do love McDonalds though, they have the best coffee, and half the price.

the integrity of MSB? you mean restoring the prominent sara lee sign?

So...Does Yak & Yeti look like a regular Landry's? Did Restaurantosaurus look like a McD's? Did the Rainforest Cafe at Animal Kingdom not fit in with the theme?

Why are people thinking these Starbuck's will be any different than these other fairly well themed corporate sponsored eateries?

As I said before, I don't like Starbuck's bitter coffee, but I don't think the "theme" of Main Street will be disrupted. It will fit in, just as all the other sponsored food outlets have in the past.

This is so true! Some of the conductor cast members on the Red Car Trolley even jokingly mention something along the lines "the longest attraction line besides Radiator Springs Racers in the park is the Fiddler Fifer & Practical Cafe location in the morning" as part of their spiel.

I stated my position many times, I cannot describe what it will be, only what it will not, MSB. I never said place will not fit, you just twisting my words to fit your point.

I will believe that it will NOT be the Main Street Bakery when I see them drag in a wrecking ball. Until then, I will remain optimistic that the changes will be modest on the outside and positive on the inside. You can believe otherwise.

The issue for a lot of people seems to be Starbucks itself. For some reason, the Starbucks brand creates a lot of resentment. Usually this resentment is accompanied by false claims about how expensive Starbucks is and the usual complaint about the "burnt" coffee (i guess those people have not tried the blonde).

No, I mean the integrity of the Main Street Bakery. Personally, I look the look and feel of it. Also, it's a classic and it's been there since the beginning. I wonder if they will still sell their "homemake" ice cream between two cookies sandwiches? That is always a treat when my family goes there. :goodvibes

that is funny. "homemade" ice cream sandwich. mass market edy's ice cream and dry, hard tollhouse cookies. 2 corporate behemoths together in one treat. but starbucks will be a problem. lol.

do you think MSB is exactly the same as it was 10 years ago? 20 years ago? why would you think it shouldn't change?

I guess this is where the confusion arises. Go to post #284 to see what the classic MSB looked like on the day the MK opened in 1971. Yes, it is a classic, and yes, it has always been there. And it has also been branded for the vast majority of time that it has been in operation. Just not by a lightning rod like Starbucks.

NEWSFLASH ----

"WAL-MART Supercenter coming to Downtown Disney"

"New at World Showcase - Australia with Outback Steakhouse"

Aren't most adults fans of the whole 'actions speak louder than words' thing?

Why would Disney adapt the SB in DCA so simply and integrate it so well, only to turn around and remove MSB and replace it with a regular Starbucks chain?

THEY WON'T. It doesn't make any sense to think that they would stray from the way they went about this earlier this year in their other park.

You're hanging onto your interpretation of a few words versus what they've actually done in the same situation.
