Goodbye Epcot Wand...?

Thanks for reminding me of how ugly they are! I want my flowers back they were always so beautiful and classy for a classy park, why does everything Disney have to be trashy anymore?

Then how do you know you hate them?

Because I can see from pictures and the Disney vacation videos how awful they look. I like the plain SE with nothing on it. The hand and wand look tacky. And I hate the hat because I remember the old view of MGM and the hat looks tacky and out of place.

I just thought of an idea they could do with SE. IF they do take the wand down, it will look dull and just plain after all this time. Well what if they took the ball and created a literal master piece out of it. They could take the countries plus FW and paint different symbols on it for each country and FW. Like FW, put the moon, stars, planets, rockets. Countries for France - the effile tower, UK - Big Ben Tower/Clock or the bridge, Mexico - pyramids, etc. And have either the paint light up like glow in the dark paint or have a back light that way it can be seen at night. Sorta like the globe in IllumiNations but not exactly. SE is supposed to be the main icon for Epcot. Well Epcot is all about FW and countries around the world coming as 1. And I think them taking the same concept they did with IllumiNations but painted different things on the ball would be a great idea. That way nothing is added onto the ball but paint. In the future if they wanna paint over it back to its original form, they can.

That attraction has to be one of the biggest wastes of real estate. Hopefully they inject some fresh blood into a tired attraction.

Spaceship Earth is a masterpiece already, it's the largest geosphere ever built and was fine as an icon without any decoration for years...why have to add anything to it?

Do we have to put a hat and glitter on the Statue of David?
How about a huge American flag on the Statue of Liberty?

No, they're fine icons as they stand, no need for cheap decorations for people to know what park they're in.

oh, as far as the tombstones in front of it and the "painted on" parts in front of SSE to make it look like it fits...they look really cheap up close as well, like flat tacked on pieces.

IMO, pretty much anything would be better. I don't find it a very good attraction as I almost fall asleep on it everytime. Just a revamped attraticion about communication would be better than it current state.

Name your favorite part of the ride? If you really have to think about it, it's probably not such a good ride. I'm sure many must like it cause it's supposed to be the most ridden ride at EPCOT.

Ok, yeah, it could use an update (which it's getting). But I've heard people suggest that SSE should be replaced with a ROLLER COASTER. That's just ridiculous, IMO.

Oh, and I love the music on SSE, and especially the scenes when you're descending backwards.

No, we like it because its a great way to quickly learn about the history of communication, it has some very unique features and its a classic, though I still prefer the Walter Cronkite narration.

The hat is not going anywhere. It is the staple icon of MGM. If you ever look at maps of WDW, the big hat is on the maps to show where MGM is.

Im an old school disney fan, but I like the wand. Its pretty damn cool. And as for the hat. Where are people going to take pictures as they arrive at the park?

The "Earful Tower" was the icon before that ugly hat was ever even thought of. Hollywood Blvd. was designed as MGM's main street, and the Chinese
theater was the castle. The ugly hat icon can be replaced on maps just as easily as the "Earful Tower" was. People can take pictures in front of the Chinese Theater just like they did before the ugly hat destroyed the sightlines.

I love GMR, but man, I would not want my MGM photo in front of the Chinese Theater. The hat seems so magical, so Disney. The Chinese theater looks like it belongs in World Showcase.

That comment made me sad : ( Space ship earth is classic!! I dont care how lame it is. SE is part of disney magic! They have referbished it a few times over the years to keep up with the times. But the old feel helps take me back to my child hood. With out that attraction Epcot wouldnt be the same place! I always thought if they were gonna stick somthing to it, it should be two ears to look like mickey's head!! I think that would be wickid cool! ( no face needed just some plain old ears! )

They should move the wand to DCA and put big DCA letters on it since it fits with the lack of theming there!!

It made me sad and angry. I love SSE and I am 19!! I believe the wand should go too, it was so much better without it. I wonder what Walt would think of the wand? The pic of MGM without that hat made me cry I miss the old Disney.

What exactly is the Unique feature of it? What is so classic about it, just because it hase been around since the start of Epcot. How many people don't know the history of communication?

I remember it as a teenager and you are right, it was better with Walter Cronkite. It just doesn't inspire me the way others are by it I guess. Maybe I am in the minority, but I seem to be able to get on it with no line.........hmmm.
