Goodbye El Pirata Y El Perico-Hello Tortuga Tavern

I would love if they had a park QS location to serve caribbean food, maybe some jerk chicken or other specialties.

Now that would be good! :thumbsup2

tav·ern (noun)
1. An establishment licensed to sell alcoholic beverages to be consumed on the premises.
2. An inn for travelers.

I guess that leaves us with An Inn for travelers - and a monorail to Epcot for tequila ;)

According to the Disney food blog, it is still opened "seasonally" and retains the same menu as before. The only new things are the name and the decor. It is not a TS and there are no characters.

This was the first I heard of the name change. If they just change the name and the decor, that seems to me to be a lost opportunity. They could really get creative with the food. And throw in a Capn Jack for us :)

It does seem that the Magic Kingdom gets a sick bit of fun out of taunting visitors with names that imply alcohol but then yield only sodas.

Liberty Tree Tavern will now be joined by Gaston's Tavern and Tortuga Tavern:rotfl2:

It's been like that from day 1, what with the Troubador Tavern and the Mile Long Bar. Not to mention the Diamond Horseshoe Saloon.

This just in from Disney regarding new changes to coincide with the name change.....

"We're toying with the idea of actually opening and serving food".

Thank you.

As of last week, the name was still the same and it was still closed...:), why bother with a change if nothing else is changing?

No doubt they are changing the name and decor solely to tie in more fully with the Pirates of the Carribbean movies. I know most people expected a menu change - but apparently that isn't what's changed.

I agree... no menu or name changed needed... let's start with hours of operation. "Seasonal" is a very loose term for when they are opened.

Yes,now Magic Kingdom has "The Mountains" and "The Taverns".;):)

I would love, love, love a Pirate Character Meal, & I don't know why they haven't done one yet! I think a character meal w/ Jack Sparrow would be harder to get an ADR for than CRT!!

Also, I hope Tortuga Tavern is actually open when we're there in September. El Pirata y El Perico has never been open on our last 3 visits, & we were there in May & June!

I agree that a pirate character meal would be the hardest of all adrs to come by. Disney has really missed the pirate ship by not taking advantage of that opportunity!

We've never seen it open either...

Completely agree! Don't they pay people who are supposed to think of this stuff? Anything featuring Captain Jack will draw crowds!

As for the tavern stuff, time for everyone to let it go I think. I am a fan of the adult beverages, but absolutely respect Walt's wishes being honored ~ no booze in the Magic Kingdom.

Maybe the fear for the safety of Captain Jack with all of us crazed ladies booking that meal...:lovestruc:lovestruc:lovestruc

Would love to see it be a TS with a Pirates character meal but I know that is wishful thinking.

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 I totally second that !! How cool would that be to have the pirates go table to table for pics ? I'm afraid though I'd have to knock my DD5 out of the way to get to Jack Sparrow....:rotfl: Then I'd just make a fool of myself !! It would be SO worth it !!

Have heard that they don't have a regular walkaround appearance by Captain Jack for just this reason. It was attempted at Disneyland and is no longer done because of grown women getting too enthusiastic the performers who played him.

I believe he's available on a limited basis at some of the special parties and on the cruise. But you won't find him out and around the park. He does do the pirate tutorial, but there's apparently a reason why he runs like heck out of there when the show is over.

:confused3 I mean, really, it's an amusement park with tons of little kids around!
Seasonal, right! In my many, many trips I've never ever eaten at El Pirata y El Perico, maybe I'll have better luck at the Tortuga Tavern!

If that's really the reason, that's both sad & pathetic. :sad2:

I've seen it open once or twice! The menu looked good. Taco salads and the like.
I did have my picture made with Captain Jack during one of the Pirate and Princess parties. I was not the only "older" woman in line. My picture proudly hangs in my office!

I heard that too ~ I'm glad I got the chance to meet him before Disney decided to pull him from the parks. :lovestruc
