Hey! All of a sudden we have decided to fly down, and we leave next week! We have not flown anywhere since well before 9/11. Does anyone know of a simple, basic website that can explain the carry-on rules, what documents are needed, banned items, etc.?
I probably need to know this stuff before I buy tickets....!

Thanks a bundle!

Those really are the best site. I've noted that in some cases, where someone has tried to make the statements of the rules more "basic", they've left out some important details, so they could be setting travelers up for surprises and disappointments. You're better off sticking with the authoritative sources.

As stated for the 'what's allowed' type questions, see the tsa site. For luggage info, sizes allowed, fees etc etc, you will need to check the specific airlines. The 'most important' to most casual travellers will be the tsa stuff about carry ons with the liquid and gels. If you read those and have specific questions, feel free to stop back and ask and someone will probably have run into it before.

You're flying next week and you haven't booked flights. You're too late for many of the better fares. You might windup paying $$$ for a fully refundable fare.

Give your location and some posters might give you some ideas as to how to get the best fare.

Give your airline and some posters may give you some specific information.

Any passenger 18 and over needs a government issued photo ID; drivers license, state issued non-driver ID card or passport.

Thank you all for your responses! I believe we have $89 round trip flights, unless they sell out before we can purchase them. The back-up flight is $145, but includes ME, so either way will be better than drining 12 hours! :)

What you need to know before you buy your tickets is how many bags you'll need to check and what it will cost. You also need to find out how much it will cost to go from Sanford to WDW.

Some airlines have an advance purchase requirement for some fares. I don't know which airlines you're looking at but once you get within 7 days your options may be limited.

If you are flying into Sanford, you will either need to rend a car or pay a couple of hundred for a car service.
