As. pooh-sized traveller, I understand the rigours on your feet only too well. I followed well meaning advice on our first WDW visit years ago, tried my best sneakers and socks one day and ended up with the dreaded Disney rash so bad I could barely walk...lesson learned! MY feet need to breath, unlike DH, who can't stand to have his toes uncovered. Opposites do attract, don't they?
I actually wear FitFlops pretty much until the snow flies at home. I have found the style which provides arch support where I need it (super important to my feet after more than 60 years of pounding with way more than their fair share of weight.) I take multiple pairs, and have even bought brand new ones when Mousegear used to sell them. No blisters, ever no break in period. Putting on a brand new pair is like getting brand new feet. I have done so and walked another 5 miles. I have never been able to find Birks, Teva, Keen, or Merrill sandals which provide support exactly where I need it but my FitFlops are like wearing custom orthotics.
It really is a matter of finding the fit and feel of a sandal that will work for you, all over. Don't mistake cushion for comfort....it is really have support and stability where you need it that matters. Birkenstocks are perfect examples.
