Good walking sandals for heavy women?

Moleskin is very important. Also, you may want to bring some Band Aid blister bandages. If you do get a blister they are life saving.

I'm a plus size lady as well, and I LOVE my Chacos. I can loosen up the straps on them throughout the day as my feet swell, so they never rub, and they have better arch support than my Brooks running shoes. They have been an absolute lifesaver at Disney. I can go one day in the parks with running shoes, but after that they just rub too much. The Chacos I can wear all day, every day without issue.

I also second the moleskin/blister band aid suggestion. I never set foot in the parks without a small first aid kit with a few pre-cut strips of moleskin and a couple blister band aids. There has been more than one time having those on hand has saved a park day.

I love my Keens, and I haven't had any trouble with rubbing or blisters. I've used the same pair for a week at Disney and a week in NYC, plus I wear them all the time at home.

Bold added by me. this is the best way to avoid blisters. Make sure they are well broken in and your feet are used to them before you go

I bought a pair of Clarks Vapor Mist Sandal. They are super supportive & comfortable. I also bring athletic shoes, Teva tennis shoes, & sandals. I try to mix it up while I'm there. I find that if I wear a certain pair of shoes in the am, I switch up in the pm. It helps. Or alternate the shoes per day.

I am a larger size too and I fretted and worried about our July trip this year to WDW and what would happen to MY FEET. Asics GT - 2000 4 running shoes were what I wore to make sure my feet didn't hurt. I hate getting hot feet, and I love sandals, but these shoes made the trip work for me. I used BODY GLIDE (the lotion one and the stick) on my feet and had NO BLISTERS despite 16 - 17 thousand steps each day ... or more. I swear by that stuff now! My feet felt better when I wore the shoes for long days versus the sandals. My daughter wore her Birkenstocks, and got two blisters so went back to her tennis shoes the next day.
As for the BODY GLIDE, I even used it when I wore my Merrill "Wild Dove" sandals and had no blisters. I wore them on the day we were going to get very wet on rides at Universal.
I still wore the running shoes for Kali River and Splash Mtn. and lucked out by not getting too wet at Splash Mtn. And at Kali we went twice in a row at the end of the night, so the shoes dried out overnight.
If you walk too much each day and for several days straight, I think your feet are gonna hurt. Because of knee issues, I took breaks with one of my kids each day and I did okay in the long run.

I wear Keens and also Asics running sneakers. I switch between the two to give my feet a break from socks. Both give me a solid amount of arch support. I also take moleskin with me on our trips however I haven't really needed it - just take it as a precaution.

I agree on the Keen Whispers! They are also waterproof so I got them wet with no issues, and they dried fast. I broke them in before I went, am on the heavier side as well, and they were great while there. Only one day did I have issues with my feet, and I don't think any shoe would have helped that day as we walked sooooo muchhhh...!

I've found Skechers is the best for me. I'm not small either and I don't know if my shin splints were from being heavy or not having the best shoes for me.

I wear these with no socks and they get wet and dry nicely. Its like a much more comfortable of a water shoe to me.

also have these if I'm not going to get wet

And I have these flip flops.

All of them are amazing and after a full day at Disney (rope drop to kiss goodnight) I have no pains or soreness.

Thanks for the links! I'm following along as well but the recommendations without links are not very helpful as many brands offer a variety of sandals or flip flops:flower3:

Glad it's helpful. I forgot to add a caution too. I haven't tried these at Disney but tried at our local Six Flags. They are "articulated" if that's the right word. So where the separate colors are on the sole, you can fold them completely in half. It's supposed to move better with your foot, but I must walk wrong because they trip me up!

Thanks so much for all of the advice, everyone! I just purchased a pair of the Teva sandals to try out and I'll bring along the moleskin and several other pairs of shoes to switch it up!

I wear the Keen Newport H2 (the water ones...I wear them daily year round, for housework, errands, in the pool.) they are not a "cushy" shoe when you try them on...they feel firm...so I was totally surprised how much my feet loved them. They have been my favorite shoe for years now.

Keen sandals worked well for me. No rubbing. I know I slip around in my crocs whenever they get wet.

What I've found works best for me is to bring several different pairs of shoes/sandals and swap them out every day. For summer I have a couple of pair of Sketchers and Tevas. I prefer them because they can get wet. I also use Body Glide on the bottoms of my feet, between my toes and on my heels. Since I started doing that I haven't had any issues with my feet bothering me at all.

THIS! Body Glide is the best! That's what I do, too! I never get painful blisters on my feet when I use it. May I also mention that Body Glide great for chub rub? No rashes for me! Sorry if that's TMI, but Body Glide is miraculous! You can get it at Dick's Sporting Goods.

The Keens are so cute! Do either of you find an issue with rubbing and blisters? I'm worried because of the two times I thought Crocs sandals were a good idea and my poor feet were blistered from the rubbing.

I blister TERRIBLY in my keens, but only with the extent of walking at Disney. I could walk miles around Chicago in them no problem, but my arches blistered both times I wore Keen Whispers to WDW. Same with Sketchers go walks and FitFlops. I am extremely blister-prone though, I have baby-like skin on my feet.

My best advice is to switch footwear each day or twice a day if you take mid-day breaks. I wear well broken in sneakers and Keen Whispers. I am not afraid to wear the Keen's with socks, even if it looks dorky. I find the socks with sandals more comfortable, even in the summer, and less likely to create blisters.

Sorry in advance if this has been asked a hundred times.

I'm not on the lighter side and Disney is always brutal on my feet. I've got a comfortable pair of Nike walking shoes but I know in August I'll be dealing with my shoes and feet getting wet. I often see flip-flops and sandals recommended here but I'm worried they won't have enough support for me.

Any larger ladies have a brand or specific shoe that they love/recommend for Disney?

I bought a pair of black and pink Disney Crocs in Epcot a few years back when my feet were aching & I love them! However, my Teva Mush flip flops are also amazing. The best thing I've ever done is to spray my feet with aerosol deodorant each morning, to use Body Glide all over my feet and to alternate between my sneakers, Tevas and Crocs!

I am a plus sized lady and wear my Birkenstocks almost exclusively all summer long at home plus morning till night on all Disney trips. Never had a problem - very comfortable and cool. I also bring a pair of Clark's running shoes to wear with socks for colder evenings, but rarely need them.

Always bring old footwear to WDW - if its not broken in, it doesn't go in (the suitcase, I mean).
