 Awhile back someone asked on an Ebay post if Beanie Babies were worth selling. Since selling most BBs doesn't make a profit.....let alone break even how about giving them away to a good cause? On a post on the Community board by CynJ she links to a site called Any Soldier . This is a site with addresses and ideas for sending care packages to our military personnel. On the What To Send link there they mention BBs for the soldiers to hand out to the kids in the countries where they are stationed. BBs are preferable because unlike plastic toys they don't break.

An excellent use for BBs is space fillers when packing boxes for a move. :earboy2: :earboy2:

That is a great idea. I would like to have my Brownie troop do something like that. I thought about sending GS cookies, it's that time again...but wasn't sure how to go about it. This sounds good, anyone else think so?

Definately! That's what's my BB's are going to. It seems the soldiers sometimes trade them for weapons and bullets to the kids. Mine are just sitting in a box anyways!

As the wife of a soldier currently deployed I thank you for thinking of the soldiers and the Iraqi children. Here's what I send specifically for dh to hand out to the little kids...

Lots of individually wrapped hard candies. These are easy for dh to tote in his BDU's pocket. The candies aren't bulky so he can easily take a handful with him and hand out one or two to each child he encounters.

I also send the small toys that come in kid's meals at fast food places.

New, unsharpened pencils and erasers are great, too, as the kids often have no school supplies.

These are just a few suggestions if you're looking for things to send that will put a smile on the faces of the kids and the soldiers. It means a lot to the soldier to be helping the kids out. My dh is partial to the little girls b/c we have two of our own. He says looking into these kids' eyes is the closest he can get to being home so it makes his day to see the little kids so happy.

JK... my thoughts and prayers to you and your family. I have never had to go through what you are. Bless your husband. :wave2:

Another idea is to contact your local police department about Operation Teddy Bear. The officers carry the bears with them in the trunk and give them out to children when they answer domestic violence calls and accidents. Children near and far love Beanie Babies. :goodvibes

I have 2 cases of GS cookies to send to Iraq. I'll have to add another box with these beanie babies too. :)

I'm giving most of mine (a huge rubbermaid chest) to MD Anderson Cancer Center childrens ward. I hadn't thought about giving them to the police dept - good idea, maybe even to the children's advocates organization. I think I'll divide them up between them.
