What are people buying? I looked at BCAA and they have good covid coverage for fully vaccinated, but it doesn't seem to cover costs for trip interruption (like extra hotel costs, etc if you have to quarentine). Anyone found good insurance that would cover this if you test positive before coming home?

I believe that WestJet includes TUGO insurance coverage for hotel costs with all flights booked. I haven't really looked into it as we're more concerned with health insurance coverage (for which we've bought TUGO insurance) but, if it's mainly about hotel costs then check out WestJet's included insurance.

Thanks. Yes bcaa was only about $66 with zero deductible for up to 10mil for health :) including covid.

I am on the hunt for insurance as well for our upcoming trip. Our insurance through extended will cover at a level 3 advisory but I always like to get extra coverage. It seems Tugo has some options but I am unsure what happens if the travel advisory changes while you are away? They offer a vaccinated and unvaccinated option. My eyeballs hurt from trying to figure all this out..

TUGO was the only option I could find. Manulife has a policy that will cover quarantine, but only for trips of 31 days or longer. I spoke with a broker and with C-19 being a "known" event now, most insurers are not offering cancellation/quarantine coverage. You can get medical coverage for if you actually get sick, but there are not many options to protect you if you test positive and need to cancel before the trip, or can't come home at the end 🤷‍♀️

I just got off the phone with a rep from tugo she said as long as the advisory stays at a level 3 coverage is valid. If it changes to a level 4 while you are away you have 30 days to get home so you have the option to finish your trip and keep your scheduled flights and be covered.

I am fine with the cancellation portion, we can cancel our flights room etc. Just want to make sure we are covered medically if something was to happen while we were away..

So does TUGO cover the quarantine portion? Most insurance covers the medical parts for covid.
I am still reading all this but she said if I included the COVID-19 Insurance Unvaccinated Worldwide then it would also cover the quarantine portion but not the testing.

Wait. That is for unvaccinated. Does it also cover quarantine for vaccinated?
That is what she said I had to add on to cover the quarantine portion. She knew both of us travelling were vaccinated. Maybe try calling them and see what answer you get. My brain hurts reading all the fine print on this :scared:

Currently looking at TUGO as well, I don't understand the part about adding the unvaccinated part? Seems like a trap, it's not the money, the quote only adds a couple bucks more, but seems counter intuitive, why select unvaccinated coverage if you are vaccinated?

Look up Tour+Med. they will cover $50/day for quarantine. I think they also cover $100/day for hotel, you’d have to phone them. Last December they were one of the only companies that covered Covid. This was before our vaccines came out. I bought their insurance and it was quite reasonable.
