We fly out in a week and today I was checking my reservation--I was looking for an on-time percentage for our first flight as we only have an hour and 6 minutes for our connection in Charlotte (not my choice; they changed the schedule in December).
I checked our seats, which I picked when I booked in August. Three out of four flights were fine. The first flight, though, we were booked in three seats in row 25, and there were only 23 rows in the plane. If I hadn't noticed we would have been all over and assigned at check-in, I assume. Not that big a deal as my son is 17, but I HATE talking to or sitting by strangers so it would not have been a good start to my spring break. I was even able to get three in a row, although since it such a small plane it is DS and I on one side and DH across the aisle.
