Good thing I am not afraid of dogs.... WWYD if this happened to you?

Wouldn't bother me. I love dogs, especially big dogs. I likely would have hugged the dog.

I would think that if it was someone who wasn't familiar wiht their dog then they would have kept him back until the person was gone so that he wouldn't ahve a chance to jump like that and scare someone. I don't let me dogs near strangers or any new people until I ask them if it is okay and make sure my dogs sit when they get close to people.

I would have likely lurched backward.

I imagine if someone was afraid of dogs, they wouldn't have been petting it in the first place.

Also a good dog owner will be aware of the body language of its guests and not even have to ask if they have an issue with a dog.

But some dogs are friendly and I think the situation was handled properly.

I probably would have licked him back!! :rotfl:

Seriously, I would have given him a hug and a pat and then I would have lifted him gently by his paws and brought him back down to the ground where I would have scratched his ears and given him some attention.

It wouldn't scare me, but I really wouldn't like it. I think dogs should be trained not to jump up on people.

I am only 98 lbs so I would probably be on the floor, laughing. :)

The dog would get a knee in the chest. I wouldn't do it hard, but enough to force the dog to back off. If not that, then I'd go ahead and step on the rear paws.

Although my larger dog isn't that big, she's 100 pounds and used to be all muscle... very strong. I didn't put up with that, but there was nothing we could do to get her to quit jumping on people. We finally started the trick with the knee and/or the feet and it worked like a charm.

You want to be careful with smaller dogs though. I did it to the dog in my sig (about 45 pounds) and she flipped over. :lmao: I swear I didn't knee her hard! I just put my knee between the two of us, but she was coming at me so fast it flipped her over!

ETA: I'm very comfortable and confident around dogs... if I sensed in any way that the dog was being aggressive, I'd probably instead try to turn my back and appeal to the owner for help.

This is what I do with my own dog, who weighs about 50 lbs soaking wet. :) We don't allow him to jump on people unless they ask him to come up. The signal for that is patting your chest and saying "Up", then he's ok to come up, otherwise no way, he gets the knee up and knocked back. That's what our trainer recommended and that's what we follow.

ITA, dogs should not jump on people unless they are asked to. I love to give my pup loves and have him stand up with me, BUT only when I tell him it's OK and never to other people. He does get excited and forget but he's quickly corrected and everyone who comes to our house knows that 1, we have dogs, 2, the knee trick works and is perfectly OK in our house. :)

I'm not too afraid of dogs when they are acting friendly, but I do not want anyone's dog jumping on me unless I've asked them to. I also know the difference between affection and aggresion but that doesn't matter, dogs should not jump on someone unless they are asked. :)
