Just wondering what are some good things to ship to the hotel/get at a local grocery store for our Disney vacation??

We have a Studio so theres only a toaster and fridge, but I just cannot simply think of anything.

Ideas???

Asst. crackers, hard cheeses (ship a paring knife, can't cut cheese w/ plastic & bring asst. zip lock bags to store opened cheese etc.) We love baby carrots and dip, along with sliced salami or peperoni w/ cheese as a quick snack or appetizer before drinks. Breakfast Bars, Yogurts, Frozen breakfast sandwiches in small packaging like hot pockets, or you can put them in zip locks to save room. Lunch meats, nuts, chips, dips, pringles, tortilla chips and salsa, I travel with 14 year old boys so snacking is high up on the list! My kids love olives and they come in pull top cans now, as well as glass jars. The fridge is small but it will accomodate quite a bit! Also, if you like a pre dinner cocktail, ship a bottle of your favorite mixer and alcohol!

I do mostly 2br's now but in the early days it was studios so I brought a small soft sided cooler with me and stored drinks in it with ice from the resort to make room in the fridge for other things!

For dinners I'd buy a rotiserrie chicken from Winn Dixie and add a salad and microwave rice, vegies and/or potatoes. Hot dogs are quick in the microwave, save packets of mustard and ketchup, easy to carry rather than bottles.

Wait and see, you're going to get tons of suggestions, people on the DIS have great imaginations!

Good luck and have fun!

WoW :scared1:

What great ideas! I am definitly writing this all down and taking note for our trip!! Very informative, thanks for the help :worship:

DH and I will be in a studio this May, and last time we were in POFQ with a mini-fridge only. We bring our own kettle for oatmeal / hot coffee for breakfast, and then we also order (from garden grocer) milk, yogurt, and OJ. We're doing the dining plan for lunch and dinner but we get lots for snacks: trail mix, granola bars / breakfast bars / protein bars, prepackaged apple slices, cheese sticks, mini bags of chips or popcorn, pudding cups, just off the top of my head (I could come up with lots more but DH and I have realized that we have to limit how much we order 'cause we can't really eat that much food from the grocery store when Disney is tempting us with their food at every corner lol). You could also do fruit cups, fruit snacks, ect. I recommend going to the garden grocer website and looking at their park essentials section - there are lots of ideas there!

Oh ok I didnt know they had that! Yeah we will not be doing the dinning plan (a little out of our price range). But thanks for all the help!!!

I bring oatmeal, granola bars, fruit leather, cookies, goldfish, fruit roll ups, twizzlers, gum, and prepackages bowls of Cherrios. I also bring extra prepackaged coffee filters with coffee already in it cause they never give enough.

I buy a family pack of salami, and a loan of bread from market at BC, or SSR. Either bring Mayo packets, or pick them up there. We eat these alot. Snacks when ever for DH and I and a bowl of cereal for DD6. I also buy soy milk for DD6 and a bottle of wine or champagne. I use refill mugs for pop, and refill all day at parks through water fountains and stuff. Next trip I'm bringing a package of pre-cooked bacon 4 bacon sammies. A family pack is about 7$ and makes a ton of sammies. I am also bringing a few otter pops for the freezer.

I don't do delievery cause I would never buy enough to justify, and I would end up wasting too much. I also do the DDP, quite a bit of the trip.. Which already has too much food in it.

Almost everyone I know is doing the DDP but I simply cannot afford it I feel like. Is it really worth it? Is the cost make up for the coast you spend at the parks for food??

My kids like scrambled eggs made in the microwave:thumbsup2...bagels, pop tarts, cereal and milk for breakfast. Lunchmeat sandwiches, pb and j. The fridges are small but big enough to hold a good amount. Its bigger than a dorm size fridge.

Microwave popcorn. I also watch for sales at Walgreen for their packets of nuts and snack mixes (peanuts with chocolate and sunflower seeds or dried fruit).

Unless we have decide upon a character meal, we always eat breakfast in the room. When we are in a studio we usually keep it simple with items like
bagels/bagel thins, cream cheese, toast/peanut butter, cereal, fruit.

We also stock up on water, gatorade and some soda. The pop is usually kept for the room, but we freeze some of the other drinks and take them to the park with us. It saves time and money vs buying all drinks at the parks.

We also have lots of snacks, individual portions of crackers, graham crackers, trail mix, popcorn. These are a necessity in the parks for when there's a hunger attack at an inconvenient time!

One of our biggest struggle is not to overbuy. :rolleyes1

Enjoy your trip! :)

We don't do the DDP either, it is more than we spend on food. We usually take (bear in mind we drive!) sandwich meat, sliced cheese, pnut butter, mayo, mustard, pringles travel, pop-tarts, trail mix, granola bars, snack cakes, case of bottled water, beer, sodas. We usually have an in room snack breakfast, a TS lunch and a sandwich in the room for dinner. When we stay in a 1 or 2 bedroom we take more stuff that we can actually cook.

For me and DH we LOVE DDP. It is expensive... pretty much more than a month of groceries, but we don't eat out much and so it's an extra treat added to our Disney Vacation for us to get to go to different restaurants (counter service and table service) and so it's worth it for us. Basically we would be going to the restaurants anyway, so DDP just makes it like "prepaid" meals for us.

Is the cost make up for the coast you spend at the parks for food??

This depends on how you would eat at the parks. Most likely if you plan to be frugal with the meals at the park then you'll be able to spend less on food in the parks than you would pay for DDP. If you want to do sit down meals though, especially character dining, then the cost makes up for it.

We love the DDP and it does save us a bit of money over paying for the same things OOP. It depends on how you want to eat. It is not for everyone, but it definitely works for us and our dining style.
We do breakfast in the villa, a Counter Service lunch in the parks and then a Table Service sit down dinner each evening. If this is your dining style, then I think it saves a little money.
If you are going to pack lunches, or not eat at Table Service restaurants each day, then you can save some money over the cost of the DDP.
Look at the restaurant menus here ont he DIS and on allearsnet.com and see where you would eat and what it would cost you to see if the dining plan works for you.

Hmm thanks for the input!!! We have 3 dinners planned but other than those I really dont think we are going to eat much in the park.

We don't get it when we are trying to stick to the lower end of our budget. So many counter service places have meals two people can split. Plus, a loaf of bread and a pound of lunch meat with cheese only costs about $15 and can make sandwiches for a week for my family. Throw in a can of pringles for $2 and some grapes for $4 and you have lunches for 7 days for a little more than $3 for 4 people! So, the "worth it" really depends if you will eat all your meals in the park or if you mind making/packing lunches for the parks.

Yeah we plan on doing breakfast at the hotel and snacks int he park, with an occasional bought snack item or shard counterservice. We really want to try to eat as much as we can in the room and that goes for all meals. I only have 3 dinner ADRs so the rest I want to try to fill with grocery goods!!!

For that case, it is very smart not to get a dining plan then. They even make the precooked bacon you just have to eat in the microwave. You can make BLT's with them. I know some pizza places deliver to the resorts too (forget which ones) so that is an option too.

Have a great time!

Oh...one tip we have that you may already have heard is that we freeze our water bottles the night before. They double as ice and when they melt it is nice cold drink. At counter places ask for water rather than a soda and you can save a good deal of money that way too.

The freezer in the studio can't hold a lot, but I also love the convenience of some microwave meals from Birdseye -- the Voila dinners, and Buitoni. They are very good. I have some Rubbermaid containers in my Owner's Locker I use to cook them in, but you could get some Gladware, or Ziplock containers for the same purpose. I like to stop at Publix and get some Boars Head deli meat and cheese and some water crackers for snacking -- feels so elegant.

And if you're really splurging, the Publix deli has some elegant desserts you can order ahead of time that are out of this world.

Ok...no go on dining plan!

And thanks for the tip. I can bring my crystal light packets to add to the water if I need a change :goodvibes

:thanks:
