Can anyone recommend a good shampoo for color treated hair that won't fade the color too much.

I get my hair colored every 6 weeks, but by the end of the cycle my hair is extremely faded from the color I walked out with after my appointment. I know it will fade somewhat, but it's almost a completely different color than the original.

I am currently using either Pantene or Tresseme' (sp?) for color treated hair. I have oily hair & must wash it daily.

Any suggestions?

Don't know what color your hair is, but I've been using SunSilk Beyond Brunette lately. It has some light color pigments in it that really brighten up colored hair. Works especially well with highlights... I also really like the new Dove Advanced Care Color Care line. They have one for highlighted/lightened hair and one for darkened hair.

Usually use the dove for the first week, alternate with the SunSilk for a few weeks and then use the SunSilk for the last week or two before I go again. (I have to wash every day too).

You might also want to look into a glosser. John Frieda has a really good one (for blonde, brown, or red). It's not terribly expensive and is much better than going to the salon for a gloss.

Smiles,

What color are you coloring it?

Generally anything from the 'store' is no good for colored hair. Youre just stripping the color out, faster.

You need a salon product that deposits color, to keep it fresh. A super good one is by: Sexy Hair Concepts - Color Me Sexy. It's about $14 at Ulta - BUT you do not need to use it everyday.... every few days to freshen up your color.

Between salon visits and color refreshign shampoo - you need a good salon brand shampoo. It truly doesnt matter which one - pick one you like, but it needs to be a salon brand.

In addition to that, you also need a GOOD conditioner. Conditioned hair doesnt fade as quickly as dry hair does.

Right now, I use Matrix Biolage shampoo and conditioner. I get my hair colored every 6 weeks as well. I usually need to buy shampoo and conditioner on my visits and I rotate hair products. My mind is drawing a blank as to what the other brand is.

Biolage for Color Treated hair. I wash my hair daily and the color doesn't fade. JC Penney Salons have it on sale BOGO or BOGO50% every other month or so, and two large bottles last me a full year or more.

I've been using it for several years and am very happy with it.

I personally really like the Matrix products, either the Biolage or their newer one that comes in a purple bottle. I am not a fan of the Paul Mitchell ones, the conditioner was like water.

I've tried the Artec color depositing shampoo and conditioner. It seemed to work well and came in a variety of colors. I think you used it every other washing or something similar.

Another Biolage user. I have been using it for years. I used to buy it at Walmart's Hair Salon(usually cheaper than hair salons). Now I buy it at Lord and Lady's at the mall.

A lot of times, especially after Christmas - you can find sets of shampoo/conditioner on sale - and cheap, cheap cheap!

I stock up and have a closet full.

Im NOT a huge Matrix fan (I like the Curl Life one though...green bottle, very conditioning) but it's not bad AT ALL. I just like other stuff better.

I can 2nd this brand. I just got this 2 weeks ago and I love it. Love the smell and how it works. Definatley get a good salon brand shampoo.

I really like Aveda's shampoo and conditioner for color treated hair. The red fades out much slower since I switched.

I use Pureology AntiFade shampoo and conditioner - the one in the purple bottle. I get it at the salon. It is expensive but you only need a little bit so it really isn't any more expensive than other brands. My color nevers fades and my hair is always really soft.

I use any salon shampoo for color treated hair usually. This time I bought Paul Mitchell brand, and I love the way it feels it my hair!!

For colored treated brown hair, the shampoos I like are:
Frederic Fekkai Brilliant Brown &
Nick Chavez Midnight Expresso

I use Korres Sunflower Extract And Vitamin F Shampoo and Korres Silk Milk Conditioner.

My hair is very thick and takes a good amount of shampoo when washing. I swear by Suave for Brunettes.

I use what ever is cheapest on the grocery shelf. Yeah, my color fades, but it has faded with EVERYTHING I have ever used. I kinda like how it fades to blondish, then I go back and get it brown again, and it fades, and it just shakes things up a bit and I'm never bored with the same old color. :lmao:

Little bit OT, but as long as we are talkin hair color......... I just wanted to give a plug to a product that HAS ABSOLUTELY CHANGED MY LIFE for the better. L'Oreal root Touch Up. It is amazing! I have DARK brown hair and am going prematurely grey (like all the other women in my family) and I have WHITE hair in the front. Not salt and pepper, but WHITE skunk stripes at the temples. Also, my hair grows FAST. Really fast. So needless to say, I have to color often to keep up on the roots. I was going insane (and broke)with the every 4 weeks to the hairdresser. Just when I thought I couldn't keep up with it any longer and was going to go "Pepe La Pew" for good, my friend gives me the tip off to this stuff. (This is one of those friends that never gives away her secrets, and keeps all good info to herself, so she was REALLY taking pitty on me.) Now I touch up with this stuff like 3 times before going back to the hairdresser to get a good professional color done. I am only going to the hairdresser like every 5 months now. Saving me a bundle (the product is only like $5 at Walmart). Saving me a ton of time, as I need to get a babysitter for my little one when I get my color done. LOVE LOVE LOVE it. It is keeping me younger longer. it is perfect for me because my hair is not greying anywhere but the front, so, I don't have salt and pepper roots all over like some, my hair is all brown on the rest of my head, so I just hit the temples with this stuff and it takes less than ten minutes before a shower and I'm done. :cloud9: Since it just goes on the roots, I keep the professional color and highlights all over, but just take away the white at the roots. It comes in a ton of shades and somehow it just blends in with your regular color. I have tried lots of shades and they all work great. (just seems I am ready to rinse quicker with the darker shades of brown) I'm just paying that little tip forward.....

Thanks for all the responses. I've gone to a reddish brown - more towards my natural color, but a little brighter. My natural color is drab, drab, drab!!!

I was a lot lighter & then on my last color I decided to go dark again. I knew my color faded when it was lighter, but didn't realize how much until I went dark again & then had it redone yesterday!

Thanks again - I think I'll check out the Biolage to start.

You should pick up a color refresher shampoo (or conditioner), in addition to Biolage. Red fades QUICK...
