Good rate on Alamo car rental

...using a Sam's Club discount. Without a rate and discount, for my December trip it would be $280.18, but by using the Sam's Club ddiscount, total with taxes and everything is $170.35. Everything else I've tried has been at least $170 Plus taxes, so this sounds good to me. Most of the other discounts are only through 6/30/03, so I'll be checking and keeping an eye out later, but at least I've got something lines up.

I used BJ"s with their free day and ended up with 167.71 for the week. The additional driver is free and it is for a full size car.

I've been logging in to the Sam's website and the deals aren't so good for me (as of yet). I am looking to rent a car in September--I guess I need to wait until late July or August...

so far the rentals haveing been edging upwards. My rental is for Sept. Try BJ's, apparently anyone can use it. I used BJ"s and a free day coupon from their magazine for my rate.

For the first week of December, I've been trying using Walmart, BJ's, and Entertainment and they all come up with about the same total: $135 before taxes/fees and $178 after...none of them will let me add a coupon! I'm only using the codes...I can't figure out why you can't plug in all three spots...a code like "BY" and a 6 digit code next to it, PLUS a coupon code...

Has anyone had luck plugging in all three (of the same company as i know you cannot combine two different companies)????

I have done this, that is how I got the rate I have mentioned.
Try this: BY-489304-fb02. I have even had success using other company codes with the coupon. Same rate, however, so, I did not "push" it. Usually when there is a problem, they pretty much highlight it for you.

Thanks but it didn't wor I plugged them all in and got a error message about the coupon and when I deleted it then it worked and gave me the same old rate...could it be the coupon expires before December when our trip is?

All the coupons I use expire the end of December but still don't work! Seems I can only get one or the other but not both discounts.

I am sorry, the coupon is FB20. Coupon is good through 12/31/03.

BTW, when are your dates? Let me try for you, it is working really well for me.

I am coming up with the same total you are with the coupon.
The coupon is deducted on the screen that shows you the total.

Thanks Gail but there's still something wrong. I get all the way to the point where you pick which car and it shows the rate and then when I click 'continue' I get an error message about the coupon and that i need to call customer service...which I did.

She had no problem helping me. She couldn't figure out why my computer is doing this and her only option to me was to book it over the phone. She came up with a grand total of $166.62 which is a bit better than the $178 I was getting.

This is for my BIL anyway so I guess he can just call.

Try clearing your temp. internet files.

I have not tried clearing my temp internet files yet...but I did try using the coupon WITHOUT logging in as a member and it worked but when I go back and log in, it doesn't work again.

Well, I cleared out my cookie/temp files and tried everything I could think of and it still wouldn't work so I emailed the technical department and this is what they said:

Thank you for your inquiry.

Are you a QuickSilver member? If so do you have a corporate account attached
to the membership? If you do this would be what would be preventing usage of
the coupon as a member. The system is recognizing the corporate account and
since they can not be combined it will not let the coupon be booked with the
corporate account.

But aren't you a quicksilver member, Gail?

Yes, I am, but I joined years ago when it was for individuals.
And, I have nothing corporate attached to my membership, just personal stuff. That would explain why I don't have the problems you are having.

Yep, that's the problem! I went into my profile and deleted my Quicksilver number and ID and now I can use the coupon.

That stinks. Unlike National's EC where you can, indeed, use a coupon...you can't with Quicksilver...bummer.

The rate of $166 I just got was for a week, midsize for Nov 30 - Dec 7 using the BJ's discount codes and coupon.

I can also get this rate with the Entertainment book too.

They are for the duration of your stay and it depends on the code as to the size of the vehicle. Alamo will let you know what is available for these codes. National will tell you if it is applicable.
You need the coupon and in order to get the coupon you need to be a member. BUT......they do have coupons and codes out on the BJs site. I have never been asked to present proof, but, I would be sure to have it if I were making a reservation using these codes for clubs.

www.mousesavers.com has many codes anyone can use.
