My DD and I are planning a trip to California next March and are looking at staying at a good neighbor hotel. Are there any that have the early entry perk that staying at one of the the 3 Disney hotels gets you? I really don't want to pay the Disney prices if I can get the perk elsewhere.

Also -- if you have stayed at one of the good neighbor hotels, would you do it again? I understand some are just as close as the ones on property.

Thanks a bunch for any advice you can give me.

You will not get to take advantage of the Extra Magic Hour if you are staying at a GNH. That is only a benefit for onsite guests.
Most 3+ day tickets will give you one Magic Morning. This will get you into DL only for their EMH which usually takes place on Tue, Thurs, and Sat.

If you stay in one of the three Disney hotels you get early entry every day, alternating days with California Adventure open for early entry on Mondays Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. If you stay off site in a good neighbor hotel and buy a three day or more park hopper ticket you will get one early entry valid on Tuesday Thursday or Saturday to be used only at Disneyland.

We stayed at the Disneyland Hotel once and it was a little hard to get up every day for magic morning.

We slept in too late!

We have also stayed at the Fairfield Inn the Tropicana and Best Western Park Place Inn. Those hotels were all just fine, though definitely not as pretty as the DLH!! They are all very close to the entrance, and I found the walk to the parks a bit more enjoyable than the long trek through Downtown Disney every day.

Have fun planning!

Castle Inn and Suites is great. We stayed there last November. The room was huge and it was only 10-20 minutes walk fromt he park depending how fast you walk. As someone else said above though I don't think any of the Good Neighbour Hotels get you early morning entry like the Disney hotels have everyday but the ticket I got we got one MM entry

We could not justify the cost of staying on property at DLR. As long was we got to the parks for RD we were always able to ride most rides with minimum waits during the first few hours.

I have stayed twice now, 2014 and 2015 at https://www.motel6.com/en/motels.ca.anaheim.1066.html

Its a very clean and comfortable but basic hotel. No breakfast and you need to use the ART shuttle. The king beds and the rooms are large, with lots of room for luggage. I will be back next year

I've stayed here about 4 times and love it! Nothing fancy, but clean and comfortable and the first ART stop!!! Last time we stayed there were 4 of us and our room was huge and so was the bathroom!!! Can't beat the price! I have it booked for November 2015 and January 2016!

Don't get hung up on the GNH rating because there's not really any benefit. Some of the best local hotels are not rated GNH by Disney and none of my choices are such.

Our favorite off property hotel is the Hojo on Harbor. If you have kids they have an awesome kids pool area. The beds are super comfy too! Free parking. Keurig coffee makers. Walk to the parks is about 8 minutes. Mimi's cafe right across the street. You can see the Mattehorn from some of the rooms and also see the monorail go by. Not sure if they're a GNH or not. Like someone else said, it doesn't really mean anything.
