We are DVC members planning our first trip to DLR for next summer. We are driving and will therefore have our car. We were originally going to stay 4 nights in a 1BR at VGC. However, since we want to squeeze another Christmas trip at WDW in for 2012, we are thinking of staying just 3 nights at VGC and then switching to a good neighbor hotel (maybe Fairfield Inn). I found out on the DVC boards that VGC will let us park our car in their lot until midnight of check out day. What kind of policies do the GN hotels have, or does it vary? For example, do you have to move your car at check out time, or can you stay longer? I might circumvent this by staying 2 nights in the GN hotel and then leaving early AM to drive to San Diego, our next part of the trip. TIA!

It varies a bit. Many let you stay on check out day until DL closes. Some do not.

Some have tight parking and when full you have to park remotely. Some have ample parking.

For FFI it has a good amount of parking, but you may not know until next summer what thier policy will be on parking on check out day for your stay.

I'm sure it varies by hotel, but I do know that all of the nearby hotels issue parking passes for the length of your stay. We just stayed at the Park Vue and our pass was good until check-out time (11:00 a.m.) on our last day. Just to be safe, we went so far as to move our car to the lot at the IHOP next door since we had breakfast there and it was already after 11:00. We didn't want to risk leaving our car at the Park Vue after the pass had expired (we tend to be extreme rule-followers!). You will probably want to call the hotel directly and ask about their policy.

Good for you, we are also.

We have stayed at HOJOs and Candy Cane Inn and were able to leave our cars before we actually got a room and after we checked out to go enjoy the parks with no problems.

Yes, currently policy at Hojo's is that you can park your car there until midnight on check out day. And they have plenty of parking.

We have never had a Hotel say we could not leave the car before or after checkout. They are usually really nice about it.

I took a second look at HOJO's, and their rate with free parking is pretty much the same as Fairfield's rate with $9 parking. Plus the mini fridge at HOJO would be helpful. I'll definitely keep up the research! We still may stay the extra night before heading to San Diego, as the conference hotels are pretty pricey (and more time at DL is never a bad thing, right? :thumbsup2)
