Just wanted to let you know I used a code for National Car Rental and got a really good rate for Janaury 2010. You have to book with a BMO Mastercard. The contract ID is 3717122. I also used a $30 off coupon for a weekly rental (said only good until Dec 31 but worked) so my total, all in, for a 1 week minivan rental is $360 USD which seems pretty good to me.

That seems to be a good rate. Dollar used to have the "Kiss2" code with a minivan for $199 but they seem to have reduced the benefits of that code

Do yo have the Emerald Club membership? If not it is free to sign up for one on their website.

If you don’t know about it, this is what happens…if you do, well it’s a refresher.

We have been using the Emerald Club membership for our last 4 trips. You sign up for free, then place your order for a vehicle (essentially you are paying for a mid-sized vehicle).

When you get to the airport you skip past the desk & head to the car lot. In the parking area there is an row of cars entitled the “Emerald Aisle”, as a member you can pick from any vehicle in this row. The vehicles range from sports cars up to vans…we were trying to get an SUV for our last visit, but all they had was vans, so we got a Caravan.

The code I used was 5063773, then put in the National code for $30 off as well. I checked for the 1st week of Jan with the code and the price was $317 with taxes (but for some reason it didn’t take off the $30, so it would be better)

Keep going back to check to see if you get a better price. If you get a better price, book it & then cancel the previous reservation. The last time I chopped our rental cost almost in half bythe time we left.

YOu will need to print off your reservation info & any coupons to present to the person at the gate & they will charge your credit card.

I hope that helps you out

Thanks for the info. When I tried the code you mentioned it ended up higher for my dates.

One clarification please - we know we need a minivan as we are 3 adults and 3 kids. You mention with Emerald Club you basically book a mid-size and then go to the aisle and pick what is there? So if I did that I would be running the risk there might not be a minivan there correct? Just trying to understand that part of it as we are Emerald Club members, but I am not sure how that impacts which type of vehicle i should select for my reservation?

That is true you may be running a risk of not having a van in the aisle. I'm not sure how popular the vans are in the aisle.

I would definately still keep checking back before you go as the rate may come down even if you are booking a van instead of looking through the emerald club.

We are fortunate enough to be able to take a smaller vehicle if needed (only 4 of us).

All the best
