Thanks for all the kind words..
At this point I'm still too sick - and too tired - to fight with anyone.. I had called him this morning (was trying to get a hold of him all week and kept getting his voice mail) to ask him if he wanted me to send in the copies of the letters from the doctors and he said:
"I'm so glad you called. I was just drafting a letter to you to inform you that you've been terminated."
When I asked why, he said - "You are still on a probationary period and therefore I am terminating you due to excessive absenteeism.."
(Which is true - I missed a week when I was out with a kidney stone - and now the 2 weeks with the pnuemonia..)
I'm not arguing the point that I have missed a lot of work in the past month and a half - however, both times it has been under doctors orders (with notes to back it up) and there just wasn't anything I could do about it..
More than anything, it was his tone that really annoyed me.. From the FIRST day I met him my impression was that he was a "snake in the grass" and a lot of the firings and changes that have taken place over there validates my gut feeling..
As for fighting it, if I recall correctly, when you are on a probationary status (which is 3 months over there) or are hired as an "at will" employee, they can pretty much do whatever they want - regardless of the circumstances.. Also, being a part-time employee (only 3 days a week) I'm not covered by the family medical leave act..
Yes - it's annoying - and I'm going to have to work miracles with our finances - but I would NEVER be comfortable working under him again.. This is only the beginning and I can see LOADS of people losing their jobs over there in the not too distant future..
Luckily I still have 2 paychecks left that I hadn't cashed yet.. It's not much, but enough that I can invest it in eBay fees and hopefully get back to generating some sort of weekly income.. The stinky part is that now my eBay money won't be "extra" money, but that's life..
Oh - and whoever asked about my DH? (Sorry - I'm too lazy to go back and see who it was
) He's doing about the same.. He'll never get any better and he's probably a bit worse - but he's "holding his own".. It's that tough ex-Marine attitude that keeps him going..
