This will be my first year of not competing in the Disney Marathon. I have been there every year since its creation. But do to a back injury I will not be making it this year. So I wanted to wish everyone that is participating a great and wonderful Marathon and remember you still at Disney so you better be having fun.

GOOD LUCK TO ALL

Thanks GOOFYFREEK, you'll be missed. Best wishes with your back so you can return to your training. This year is my lovely wife's first ever long run, we're doing the 1/2 together. We leave Friday, and can hardly wait.

The only negative? Perhaps 60 degrees at start time. It's nice to be warmer than past years, but does it have to be that warm? Well I gotta complain about something. :smooth:

Thats what I said on another board was AMEN im missing this one cause its going to be a warm one. But then again ive done the Ironman 4 times and ill take 60 over 90 any day.

Just bring the cold weather with you could use about 40-45 degree's would be perfect if you ask me.

I'm running my first Disney half-marathon in 2006. I am so excited! I can only run about 1 mile now, so I have a lot to learn before then. If anyone has any training tips, please let me know!

sorry you won't be joining this year - any suggestions for a great and inspiring place for me to cheer my husband on? This is his first Disney marathon (altho not his first marathon). Should he really carry a camera - are the characters out and about?

Karen I posted what my wife does on your other inquiry. But ill post it hear for others just in case. What my DW does is go straight to Main St. Then from there over to AK and then to Epcot.

Trust me the more you see your husband the better he will feel. Atleast thats the way it is for me. Try and set up an localized area you might be in and stay on the same side every time.

For instance these are the locations my wife has used with me. Left side on Main St where the board is that gives the delays and closures just past Caseys Dugout. AK she usually walks away from the crowded area at the exit of the park. And then at Epcot on usually on the last flower pot before you go out the gate. Make a sign.

I have never missed my wife. Course she has a big mouth so its hard to miss her. But you didnt hear me say that.

I wouldn't carry a camera but thats just me. Yes there are characters out there but the main one are in the parks themselves. They have had a couple at the mile marker/water areas but not many

If you have any more questions ask away Ill be more than happy to answer them.

My best advice to frndshpcptn is to start early in the year and build up very slowly. I entered my wife in the 1/2 as a birthday present in February (I know, Cary Grant I'm not), and at that time she had good base fitness from working out regularly, but could probably only run 2 miles max if a bear was chasing her.

She started with 1's, 2's, and 3's, and as spring turned to summer she very gradually increased her miles, and by August she was able to do 8. She ran a 10k in October, and her comment was "I never thought I'd call that a short distance, but it was." She was up to 10 by Halloween, and she stretched it out and did 12.5 miles on December 11. Right now she's tapering and raring to go, and is absolutely certain she will finish the 1/2 without much pain or difficulty. In retrospect, she pushed her long run out at a rate of 1 mile each month.

Finally, if you're feeling an injury come on (sore does not equal an injury, you'll know the difference), back off for a bit. Far better to do less and let it heal than continue to push it, ignore your body, and end up on the disabled list.

Good luck on, I assume, January 8, 2006.

And sorry, I'm not bringing anything from Massachusetts, not even the 40 degree weather today. Cooler would be nice, but I'm outta here.
