Good Historical Romance Book

another one here for the phillippa gregory novels....

oh, boy! I got a whole list from you guys and i wasn't even looking!! :thumbsup2 :goodvibes

I just added many of these to my "library" list I keep on my blackberry - thank you!

I love many of the authors mentioned - Kathleen Woodiwiss, Philippa Gregory, Lisa Kleypas, Diana Gabaldon, Mary Balogh...

Also always loved Judith McNaught books

Please look up Sharon Penman. She is a fantastic writer who thoroughly researches her subjects. She also has her own website so you can keep track of her work. She is currently writing about Richard the Lionheart.

In my opinion, she is far better than some of the other authors mentioned.

I'm another fan of Phillipa Gregory and Alison Weir....so I'm going to go look up some of the authors that have been mentioned - I need some books for our 8 hour flight to Ecuador/Galapagos in 6 weeks!

Let's see, here is my short list, and I am sure I could think of several others as well: Julia Quinn, especially her "Bridgerton" series (too funny!); Gaelen Foley; Loretta Chase, in particular, "Lord of Scoundrels" (possibly the best romantic history I have ever read); Karyn Monk; Jane Feather; and Sue-Ellen Welfonder.

Anything by Laura Kinsale. I  her stuff.

I LOVE historical romance books that are in a series...

my favorite authors are
Leigh Greenwood and his 7 brides series
Ana leigh
Bertrice Small

OT...but my in-laws left on Friday for their flight to Ecuador and the Galapagos!!

Georgette Heyer.

Just the best. Delightful romances, amazing humor and accurate history. My personal favorite is probably the Talisman Ring. A touch of mystery there too.

Philippa Gregory as a close second.

I was her secretary for about 15 years! I typed many of those manuscripts and have the carpal tunnel to prove it:goodvibes.

Hi Guys~ I'm looking for a good historical romance to read. I have a stressful job and life so I love to relax with a nice romance. I read all of Mary Balough's books and enjoyed them. Also Stephanie Laurens. Any suggestions. I'm also interested in Victoria & Albert after seeing Young Victoria. TIA

I've been reading the book 'We Two: Victoria and Albert: Rulers, Partners, Rivals' by Gillian Gill. It's not a romance per se, it's a historical biography of them as a couple. I am really enjoying it. :thumbsup2

Love Lisa Kleypas - all her books are great but I really enjoyed the Wallflower series.
As someone else mentioned Julia Quinn - The Bridgerton series is a favorite filled with lighthearted humor

Lots of great suggestions for you from PP's

I just this week posted about 40 books on paperbackswap.com and had 3 taken so far for credit toward books I want (even trade). Great for those of us who always have a book in hand :)

I agree, I loved the Sunne in Splendour - about Richard III.

I have to say I tried reading the White Queen by Phillipa Gregory - but I didn't enjoy it. Maybe the Tudor series was better.

:thumbsup2 I like that one as well. I'm reading one of her mysteries right now, and just finished reading False Colours.

I really love Regency Romances( hooked on Austen since I was 12)

Marian Chesney..... writes funny ...witty ...romantic regencies u can devour in a day.........

I highly recommend Georgette Heyer. She started the whole Regency romance genre. She started writing in the 30's until she died in the mid 70's. She wrote over 50 books, most regency romances, and a few other historical romances and mystery novels. The language she uses is very similar to Jane Austen, and she is reknowed for her historical accuracy. My favourite is "An Infamous Army" which is centered around the Battle of Waterloo.

Another vote for Georgette Heyer. I particularly love Bath Tangle and Frederica. She wrote mysteries that were set in the 30's too.

Amanda Quick's are pretty much the only historicals I read anymore. She has some newer ones that tie in with her other pen name Jane Ann Krentz and Jayne Castle, but her early ones are being reprinted and they are pretty good.

Cathrine Coulter does a whole series The Sherbrooke Family ones, I think one of them was The Sherbrooke Bride. I used to read them and JoAnna Lindsey and Kathleen Woodwies, Phylis Whitney, Barbera Michaels, and other 'gothic' mysteries that were period pieces.

I love Jane Ann Krentz in all her forms. Kathleen Woodiwiss is a classic as is Phyllis A. Whitney and Barbara Michaels. Another one from that time is Victoria Holt, who also wrote historical novels as Phillippa Carr. Just read Victoria Victorius about Queen Victoria and loved it.

I've just started the Bridgerton series and love it before I'm even done with the first book. I like Jane Feather, too. I will check out Loretta Chase -- sounds like my cup of tea!

Thank you, thank you to the OP who started this thread so I could learn about some more authors!

These are the favs that come to mind right off the top of my head.

johanna lindsey

Sophie Jordan

Brenda Joyce

Thanks OP for asking for some author suggestions.
I hit a dead end too, looking for something decent to read.
I live across the street from the library-for some reason, our library has an over load of Nora Roberts books. She has a great series of books. My favorite were the historic, vampire, werewolf/shift shapers series. She wrote these before the Twight series. I often wonder why she didn't get the recognition first. Sorry I can't remember the names of the books, but pretty much anything she writes is pretty good.

Roberta Gellis..she did The Kent Heiress and a bunch of others. Very well researched.
