Good Grief!!!

...
So, am I to understand that in a DVC villa you are supposed to take out your own trash?

They will come every 4th day to take out your trash and replace towels. If you need to take out your trash before then you can take your trash to the trash room.

Glad you posted again Deb. I understand your answer better now. I agree, why can't the stinkydiaperowner just put it in the trash! They must have had it in their stroller/hand/diaper bag as they walked down the hall, or if it was that room, stepped outside the room to do that. Only a few more steps would make things right.:)

This was my point. Why would anyone leave a dirty diaper for someone else to take care of! It's not as if there are no trash cans anywhere. Just because someone's on vacation doesn't mean they shouldn't be responsible and respectful of other people.

I have not stayed in a villa yet. There are no trash rooms at the Contemporary or Pop (unless you count the can by the snack & ice machines, but then it would be pretty stinky there.

Actually, you have your oldest son take out the trash! Sometimes your oldest daughter!

Seriously, in DVC it's very easy to dispose of trash. The trash room was on the way to the elevator at both BCV and AKL our last trip. Very simple to dispose of our trash, the stinky and the merely voluminous.

The only acceptable reason for the stinky diaper would be if, somehow, it fell out of something un-noticed (i.e., you put it in your diaper bag). But, if that had happened to me, I would be mortified when I opened the door and saw it lying there.

As a mother of young children (one of which is 10 months old and wearing diapers) I would like to apologize on behalf of all mothers for this one parent's action!! Thats just nasty!!!

DVC is Disney's version of a timeshare. A timeshare it totally different from a hotel. You don't get daily service unless you pay extra for it. Thus, members take their own trash out if it gets too much before the fourth day when housekeeping comes to remove it.

Still, at a non-DVC resort, your best bet to resolve a problem is talk to someone who knows. For trash removal, call housekeeping and ask where you should put a soiled diaper if you don't want to leave it in your room.

Actually, if I had a smaller child still wearing a diaper, I would plan on disposing those in the trash can in my room. However, unless my child never had a blast from the past (which I would find very unlikely), I'd plan a head with some special deodorizer or disposal bag for my hotel room. That's why I recommended bringing the Diaper Genie. Never had a smelly room with my Diaper Genie way back when. Anyone know if they have come up with a travel version of the diaper genie yet? They'd make a fortune on that idea.

not that it matters, but could the Diaper Culprit have been a non-DVC member staying on cash? or someone renting points from a DVC member? I would hate to think it was a DCV member . . . .

Well, based on some of the conversations overheard at the check-in counters, not all DVC members are that honorable either. You know, the "I'm a DVC member and I deserve..." conversations.

All you need is a box of gallon Zip lock bags. It's not rocket science. Totally irresponsible to leave it in the hall.

Yea, I have heard a few of those myself. With the amount of people now in the DVC, Some people just will never understand proper manners.

Gosh, whether DVC or Non-DVC member, all should remember the golden rules that we were taught - To share, to play nice, to pick up after ourselves, and to be considerate of others. Our twin 4 yr. old grandbabies actually asked each morning if we needed to take our garbage and recyclables to the trash room when we stayed at WLV. Will we now have to start paying extra in dues for the "Diaper/Hall Trash Patrol??::laughing:

What nice grandbabies you have. I hope they represent the future and are not an anomoly.

I certainly hope that other children are as considerate in helping whether on vacation or at home making their beds, setting the table, or politely waiting until everyone is finished eating and then asking to be excused. But my husband and I, as well as DD and SIL, have to daily role model to E & J at an early age what is acceptable and that they in turn "pass on" these traits to their playmates and friends. If so, then I've accomplished my role as their Nana. My heart just melts, when my 4 yo DGD will say, "we're a family, Nana". :cloud9:

If you think it smelled in the hallway, try being trapped in a room with it.

Last year on our first trip with a baby I ran into this problem. I thought I had planned every thing, but what I didn't expect was that even though we were traveling to a place designed for kids, they had nowhere to dispose of diapers. At home I tie them up in a grocery bag and take them to the can outside. Even in 2 bags it still stunk the room up. We took it with us on our way out, thinking we'd find somewhere to dispose of it - but Disney did not have any cans specially marked as for dirty diapers so we had to throw it in the lobby bathroom can.

So you really think every time jr does a bm everyone should call housekeeping, because kids do dirty diapers every day and they have to go somewhere

We always did the double/triple bag thing. Get a garbage bag, put the diaper in it all the way down, tie the bag in a knot just about diaper, flip it inside out thus double bagging it and repeat process as much as you can with the bag. Really cuts down on the smell and I'd still then walk it to an outside trash asap. Also, I used to buy deoderizing disposal bags for the very purpose of travel. Carried them at places like Wal-Mart, babies are us etc. Start with one of those then do the trash bag thing, you won't smell much then. It's a very simple thing.

Where there's a will, there's a way . . .

When we took our three month old DS, we planned for this type of smelly situation by carrying diaper disposal baggies in a little dispenser key chain. It worked really well because you could just tie it off and toss it in any trash and it really did conceal the smell. My thoughts, after reading the thread, are that the guests who left the diaper outside the door were either just flat out rude about the situation, dropped it accidentally (although I can't imagine carrying something that smelly in a bag to throw away later,) or maybe they had anticipated putting the diaper outside the door for only a brief moment and got caught up (ok so maybe it's far fetched, just trying here...)

Anyway, last time we were at SSR, our neighbors were extremely loud and fighting and bickering next door to us. We had just laid down to sleep when they began arguing so I walked out in the hallway to see if I could hear it there, nothing, went upstairs to where my dad's room was, nothing, so I went back to our master room and plain as day they were yelling about how they should have never brought the other couple and this and that and it sounded like the woman was accusing the man of messing around with the other guest. I called Front Desk and gave them my room number and the other room number and met them in the hallway, had to take them in to my room so they could hear the arguing when no one would answer the door. It was really frustrating. It was finally quiet but I have never heard anything like that mess. Security and Front Desk did handle it all well though. Point is, it takes all kinds of people to make the world go 'round. I just went back to bed and enjoyed my vacation anyway and hoped that the couple arguing would soon see better days.

I agree.

Our last trip to the World we were offended by DVC conversations three times....once my DH had to step in when a group insisted their breakfast items from Boardwalk Bakery be delivered immediately to their room....after all....'THEY PAID $40,000 AND EXPECT SERVICE". It was embarassing.

DVC guests are not immune from bad behavior.

I was just about to say both things as I was reading!

Should we get started on the germ infested oral organisms that are left on the room service trays? I find that appalling.
Everyone has their quirks and maybe this was a one time event. Yes it disgusting. I'm sure it was Absent Minded Park Fatigue (or AMPF as parents of young ones know it) and someone just forgot. I like to give people benefit of the doubt.:flower3:

That's exactly what we have for our dog- a container with a roll of bags that clips on to her leash. I would imagine the container full of bags would work just as well tossed into a diaper bag.
