I tend to not pay attention to what other DVC members do when I'm here in the World enjoying myself......But! Dh and I were walking down our hallway yesterday (2nd floor BCV) and someone had placed a dirty diaper out in the hall of thier room. :confused3 Why would anyone do that!!!!!! Sorry, but that just disgusted me. Put it in your own trash or take it to the trash room.

I absolutely agree! Hopefully you won't have the same problem we had a few years ago at BWV...someone left a dirty diaper near one of the side entrances (I think it was on a sidewalk, although it might have been in a hallway, not sure anymore) and it sat there the WHOLE WEEK! I couldn't believe mousekeeping would leave it for that long and not take care of it, it was in plain sight! I suppose I should have taken care of it myself, but there are certain things I won't touch without rubber gloves and some stranger's dirty diaper is one of them! EW! :rotfl:

I agree! Yuk! I guess we could always knock on their door and say "you dropped something":lmao:

I seriously thought about slipping a note under thier door, asking them to take care of their hallway 'trash'.!!!!!

Better maybe if you could find a long, thin stick or piece of metal, and slip the entire dirty diaper back under their door! :)

That is unfortunate, and rather rude to see...I like you tend to not pay any attention to what others are doing, but that one is rather hard to not notice!

I wish you did!! This kind of stuff is unacceptable and they should be made aware of it.
Hopefully they would be embarrassed and never do it again!
JMHO.

Unfortunately, it seems to be the few that ruin things for most of us. I can't believe someone would just leave a dirty diaper out in the hallway. How disrespectful to both staff and guests.

I guess you have to consider the source and just chalk it up to a family with no class. The unfortunate part is that for a week of great memories and times, one incident can still stick in your head like that. Truly sad

Is there any reason not to tell Mousekeeping or the folks at the front desk about such unwelcome discoveries?

Something along the lines of, "I was walking down the hall and noticed that there is a dirty diaper outside of room XXXX. I'm concerned about the health consequences of leaving human feces in the hall, and thought perhaps you would want to know about this so the matter could be resolved" might work.

Just say the word OSHA and see how fast they run.:lmao:

I am trying to think of a scenario where there might be some justification for doing that but...

EEWW!!! Not the kind of gift I would want to find in the hall! Some people just aren't fit for society and should crawl back into the rock they climbed out of.

Absolutely - I totally agree! It's situations like that where I wish I had a pass key.....I would have entered their room and left the dirty diaper inside their clothes drawer or inside their suitcase. Scum like those people should be the only one to see/smell their dirty diapers!

I had the front desk call the room,

and ask the guests to pick it up....

Nothing happened, so I carefully bagged it, and put in on the door, and then went "BAMM, BAMM, BAMM" on it....

Felt like high school - I know, I was silly, but it really, REALLY SMELLED.

Goldi

At any rate, no more dirty diapers in the hallway for the rest of the week.

and I did get call back from front desk saying that they talked to guests later... and oh, they were going to get it but didn't know it was so bad.

I replied that it had been over an hour, and I had woken the child. I told desk to tell them if they do it again, more waking would occur....

It's my vacation too - and dirty diapers isn't part of the BCV decor.

Side note - I'm surprise that none of the maid services pick this stuff up... I've seen dirty trays sit for days as well... so for this too I call front desk and / or housekeeping.

How do you know it was the people in the room where the diaper was in the hallway? If I would do something so stupid, I'd put it outside someone else's door and not leave it outside my own door. If it smelled so bad, why not just wrap it up in an extra garbage bag from the bathroom and carry it to the trash room?

I love you Deb, but you're not making sense here. I don't think this person would be so brazen as to put it outside someone else's door... I think they thought... "this is a hotel and room-keeping will pick it up when the come by".

When it comes to the "just wrap it up" I'm not sure if you are talking to the OP or the parent. I certainly wouldn't take it upon myself to go back to my room, grab a bag, bag the diaper, and make a trip to the dumpster...

Really, what I should do is knock on the door and ask... Is this your diaper... and if so... please dispose of it.... But you know what... I am just not able to be that confrontational... so I complain to front desk instead.

Hope you don't take this personal.... I just don't see it the same way. :flower3:

I think it's a bad idea to ever get confrontational with another guest unless it's truly unavoidable. Especially if there are children involved. I say let the front desk handle it, if they don't, bug them until they do. It's what they are there for.

"Hello, front desk."

"Hi. I was wondering -- Do you have the number for the health department?"

While I agree this situation is very unpleasant, even disgusting, it reminds me of an incident on one of my family's trips to VWL.

My son was just 2yo and we had spent a long day at the parks. For some reason on the bus ride back to WL we noticed that his diaper was at its breaking point - literally. It must have been a hot day with us drinking lots of water. DW and I felt terrible, as we had been changing him, but somehow let this diaper get filled to the extreme. To his credit, DS was still walking in it, not saying a word. Well, when we got off of the bus, the diaper EXPLODED! It actually fell apart in DS's shorts and started falling out the legs onto the walkway. There was nothing that we could do. The lining had disintegrated and the filling was going all over. (Just #1 btw, not #2.) There was no way for us to even gather it back up with what we had with us, so DW trotted upstairs to change out bare bottomed son, and I used a house phone from the ground floor to call the Front Desk.

Later that night, on our way to dinner, I suppose, we passed the same walkway, and the remnants of the diaper were still there. I couldn't believe it! I felt awful figuring that Mousekeeping would attend to it right away. I think I walked to the front desk this time to get something done. What I needed to clean it up myself was a dustpan and broom or something like that. Again I felt terrible leaving something like that in public, but did inform the powers that be, and thought they would help eliminate the problem immediately. Go figure.

What Magical Memories!

Not meaning to be mean, but I would have picked up the stuff with my bare hands.... It's just my son's stuff... I touch that stuff every day (many years ago) I would never leave that stuff for anyone else to deal with....

EDIT!: Let me recant a bit. After reflecting, I think I was too harsh here. I think you probably were genuinely doing what you thought was right.

I love you, too, Rob, but I didn't intend for the OP to pick up this diaper. Just the original owner who put it there. How difficult is that???

Tonight my son and I went to Walmart. As we were getting out of our car, a truck parked in the opposite lane from us, and almost head to head with us was unloading a shopping cart. When they finished as we were getting out of the car, they pushed it right up next to our car. And they were only a few steps away from a cart stand. So if complete strangers could put their shopping cart right next to my car, almost a parking space away from their truck instead of leaving it right next to their truck, why couldn't some lowlife drop the dirty diaper across the hall?

Back at ya, Rob. :flower3: Still friends.
