I am trying to find some good family style restaurants outside of WDW. We will be staying at the Poly and will have a rental car. I would like to have a couple of choices that will be at the most a 20 minute drive to get to. I love Disney but sometimes like to eat places outside of the parks and resorts. Thanks. :cool1:

One place that you may want to try is Crossroads, which is just across from the Downtown Disney area on S.R. 535. It includes restaurants such as Perkins, Red Lobster, Pizzeria Uno, Taco Bell, McDonald's, Pebbles, Chevy's, TGI Fridays, and Jungle Jim's.

Other popular offsite venues are Shoney's, Ponderosa, and the Golden Corral among others.

Good luck. :)

Thanks Disney Daniel. We stayed at Double Tree Guest suites a couple of years ago and I think the area you are talking about is right across the street from there am I correct? I feel pretty familiar with that general area. Is there anything else closer or do we need to go to this area?

Yes, you are right, Crossroads is in that general area but is not directly across the way. Crossroads is about as close to Disney as you can get offsite, however if you are willing to go a bit further to places such as International Drive you will find other dining options.

Heading towards Animal Kingdom but bear left at the last moment before their toll plaza, left at light (just before AK Lodge) is Sherberth Rd. next light is 192 and a Shoney's is across the street on the right. A Golden Corral is a block beyond Shoney's also on 192. Both have dinner buffets. Shoney's non-buffet menu is similar to Perkins or Denny's. Many other restaurants in that area. Drive time slightly less than going to Crossroads.

From Crossroads, next light up the street (535) away from I-4, then straight half a block and into shopping center on right, OR left quarter of a block and take a left, are two Chinese lunch and dinner buffets, respectively.

The New York China Buffet on Apopka Vineland Rd., and the Golden Corral at the Little Lake Bryan area are two of our favorites. There are also coupons for both places in some of those tourist magazines you find anywhere.

We thought the breakfast at Golden Corral was better than the Crystal Palace on our last visit. I think there is a coupon for $5.99 for breakfast with a drink, so you really can't beat that for a bargain, and the food is good too.
