Good Disney photo site?

Can someone direct me to a good site which contains Disney photos from either the parks or the cruise line? I seem to have forgotten to take some shots and want to see if I can get any from another site for my scrapbook. Thanks so much!

There's so many...

One of the users here (sorry, I can't remember your name!) runs a "lens" at Squidoo, which is basically a list of links to Disney park galleries that he likes, there are many good ones there.

You can also use this very forum - find a picture you like and look at where the picture resides. (If you use Firefox, you can right-click it and "view picture" and it'll show you the actual location in your address bar. If you use IE, then I suggest you use Firefox but you should be able to right-click the photo, go to Properties, and copy the URL then paste it into your address bar.) There's a good chance that you'll be able to use that information to find more pictures by that user.

For some examples, let's take the first few entries into the current photo contest.

The first is from Dizholic. The picture's URL is:

I boldfaced the important information - his Photobucket ID. You can take that ID and go to Photobucket and search for it. That lets you discover that his albums are available for viewing here:

Note that the domain name is slightly different, so you can't just chop off the end. It's possible that you can do that and just switch the "i" to an "s" at the beginning but I haven't tried that much - but it looks like it should work. That would save the effort of searching.

Next is brandt79. The picture's URL is:
http://www.wdwinfo.com/photopost/data/500/96037s_Corner.jpg
This is slightly trickier - but we still have the information we need. WDWInfo is linked with the Dis, so the IDs are the same. You have to go to the main WDWInfo photo page, which is here:

Then you can browse for their ID. You'll eventually find their photos here:
http://www.wdwinfo.com/photopost/showgallery.php?cat=500&ppuser=96037

Next is daannzzz, who also uses Photobucket, so the process is the same as for Dizholic. However, they have their Photobucket site set to not allow browsing, so you will not be able to view their collection.

Next is juligrl, who uses WDWInfo, so repeat that technique. Extreme8 and er3465 also use Photobucket, so we'll skip them.

Next is campinggal, her photo's URL is:

That's easy since Phanfare gives you your own domain name:

The next non-Photobucket user is 0bli0. His photo's url is:

In cases like this, start chopping off words past the slashes. In other words, try getting rid of the "l209.jpg" and you'll get to his Disneyland photos. Cut off the "Disneyland" and you'll get links to all his Disney photos. Cut off the "disney" and you get at his first page, but you don't get the links to the photo collections, just the slideshow - so what you're after is:

Next is Roger Ramjet whose picture is:

You have no choice here but to just go to his page. There is a gallery but not a Disney one, so you won't find the Disney photos here.

The next different one is rtphokie whose picture is here:

Smugmug, like Phanfare, gives you your own domain name. Easy peasy!

There's plenty of other photo sites (and people hosting pictures on their own sites) but with this info, you can usually find more photos by someone whose pictures you're enjoying.

No worries Groucho - that's me that has the lens - but I'm a she , not a he . Great explanation of how to trace a photo to someone's album or gallery.

One thing I would add is that although most folks will be fine with you using their photos for a scrapbook it's a good practice to get into to ask for permission first. Barrie

I think it's generally safe to assume that if you're printing out a picture for your own use or for a scrapbook, that the original photographer won't mind, but you definitely want permission if you'll be using it for anything beyond that. Obviously different people are sensitive in different ways about that.

There are also some sites that try to "obscure" the photos to keep you from downloading them. These are usually easily defeated (especially by Firefox - Tools, Page Info, Media tab is your friend!) but that's generally an indication that the photographer does NOT want you using his pictures.

I respectfully disagree with that train of thought, taking someone's photos without permission is basically stealing copyrighted material, it is always best to ask permission first

Wow - I didn't trealize that I would created so much controversy with my post. Believe me - I fully intend to ask permission. There were a couple shots I was looking for - the Flying Dutchman Sign at Castaway and the Boo to you Parade sign at MNSSHP. My camera did not pick up the nighttimes shots too well and I totally forgot to take the Flying Dutchman sign.
I found both photos and will no doubt be asking the photography for permission.

By the way, as a serious photographer I can tell you this......any photo you put online can be "stolen". However, if you do own a copy right on your photos (which I do on any that are labeled as such), and you can prove they are yours (I use hidden watermarks that I can pull up as proof after someone has copied it) then you can use the law if necessary to retain your property. Just because it the photo is OF a Disney item doesn't mean you can't own the photo, hence owning the copyright (which is a legal ownership).

I never realized that anyone would be able to see my albums on Photobucket without my password. I am not quite sure how I feel about this, but I have gone in and changed my account. If I post a picture here by all means copy it, I have no problem with that, but I don't want anyone looking at the albums, unless I set them up that way.

I agree with you on this one. Which is why my smugmug account is PW protected. Once you move from the linked item, you must have the pw.

I am sure there are ways around it, like everything else, but it makes it more difficult for the average person.

Sorry, didn't mean to reveal anything you didn't want revealed, but that's the way Photobucket sets them up. It is possible to set your Photobucket site so that people can't browse it but you can still share individual photos, like daannzzz has his set.

Whenever there's a question about storing potentially private stuff like that, you should try logging out of whatever service you're using and looking at it as a guest would see, to make sure that you're not revealing more than you think you are.

This is an interesting discussion and one with a lot of merit but the fact is you hijacked this poor user's thread. May I propose that you begin a new thread to discuss copyright and fair use rather than using one asking for links to Disney photo sites? It will allow this thread to move forward with a valuable set of links where we can all see the pictures and it will provide the new thread with an opportunity to gain some readers who may not think to look in a request for links to find a discussion of the legal use of images. As always I will trust that both threads will maintain a sense of civility and not turn ugly with opinions or links differ.

I certainly didn't expect or intend for the thread to morph the way it did.

AJ, you certainly won't bother me if you split this copyright part of this topic into a new one. I think the original intent of this thread is good, and would be a good basis for a "reference" thread. (I'd actually love to see a few "reference" threads and a sticky FAQ to point to them - but for many things, the "peer review" process (for lack of a better term) can tend to confuse as much as inform sometimes.)

Hopefully after my next trip, I'll be happy to add my gallery to the list. I do have the last trip's pics online (in 1600x1200 no less) but the more I look at them, the unhappier I am with them. Darn PnS image noise... grumble!

I've split the thread into 2 (I feel like such a nuclear physicist). This thread can remain a set of links to Disney photo sites while the other thread can continue to discuss Fair Use and Copyright. It is important to remember that photos posted here or anywhere else may be copyrighted and it is your responsibility to obtain the proper approval before using the photo for your own personal use.

I think it would probably be a good idea for me to create a couple of sticky threads at the top for reference. One will be a list of links to Disney photos while the other will be a list of links to references for copyright and fair use so that everyone understands their rights and how to obtain the proper copyright on their artistic works.

yeah i was unaware of this also...not that there is anything earth shattering on mine but especially given the prevalence of kiddie porn nuts i don't want people I don't know to be able to see and maybe copy my pictures of my granddaughter...so if i am understanding this right that is possible if i don't have the thing checked so no one else can see my photos?

If you want to double-check how your Photobucket looks to others, log out, then put your account name in the search box. It should take you to your album page, and you'll either see your pictures (if it's unprotected) or a page saying that the photos are hidden.

My smugmug account has 2 levels. Public is PW protected and anyone with the PW can see albums that are marked as public. Anything marked private, only I can see when logged on.

It is also possible to PW protect just individual albums either in addition to the site PW or instead of, depending on how you set it up.
