Well, we are driving to Disney in 45 days :cool1: and I am in need of a roof rack back for my expedition. Does anyone know of any good deals going on right now for them? I am hoping to get a waterproof one if I can find a good deal on one. TIA

We bought a pretty large roof bag from roofbag.com
It was easy to install, with straps and didn't fall off the car:thumbsup2

I bought two about two years ago at Walmart. They were $20 each and I figured they wouldn't really last long since they were so cheap. But I have used the first one countless times and still have the second one unopened in the box.

They also fit more than the expensive Thule hard case we used to have.

In the summer I jam them with beach chairs and umbrellas and toys and they have held up very well.

They still sell them in the auto section. Worth checking out.

Have a great trip!

We have one made by Samsonite. We paid about $65 for it at the Samsonite outlet. Not sure if they still sell it but if they do it's well worth the money. It's held up really well for over 10 years now (we use it once or twice a year). The beauty of this carrier is when we are not using it it folds up into a small box and fits in our basement closet - out of sight out of mind.

Check Amazon. We have gotten 2 from there. The best prices i found anywhere plus they had free shipping at the time and no sales tax.

My DH bought two of these bags from Advance Auto Parts. We used them on a cross country trip (1200 miles). Just in case, we did put the suitcases into large trash bags before we put into the bags, and we also used extra straps just in case. But they worked great and you can't beat the price. Also here is a code for $10 off $30 - RETMENOT123

I'm glad you asked, because I'd like to get one as well for my Ford Flex. I don't want to spend the $$ on a hard cover thing - and I think a bag will work well.

Don't forget those bags are not waterproof. I arrived from a rainy drive with wet pillows and other soggy items. It was a nightmare. I bagged things in trashbags after that and then we bought a hardshell when they went on sale.

I think it depends on the bag you get. I got two through ebay to go in the back of our F-250 a few years ago and spent a lot of time selecting which ones I wanted. (They came with the straps, but we didn't really need them since the bags were in the bed of the truck.)

A couple of Christmases ago, we had plans to spend a week in Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg. We decided to take the truck due to the huge snowstorm they had just had (quite a few roads were actually closed due to snow for several days). We were concerned about getting to our cabin, and the truck is 4WD.

It rained on us almost all the way there (several hours worth of very hard rain). Our things weren't even slightly damp. :) My husband had been slightly annoyed when I insisted on using the bags (he didn't want to fool with getting them out). After the rain started, I did refrain from saying I told you so. ;) :rotfl2:

I also bought one at walmart a couple years ago for $20.00 and it held up well. I still have it and plan on putting it to use again this Christmas!

Thanks everyone!!:goodvibes I am so glad to know that they are not very expensive:thumbsup2 I just couldn't see myself paying $50+ for something we might use once or twice after this trip! Thanks again for all the help!:)

We also got ours at the Samsonite outlet. It was a few years ago, but they were $50 then. Back before airlines added luggage fees, I've even put it into a suitcase to install it on a rental van at our destination.

I just commented when we used it a couple of weeks ago how many times over we've gotten our $50 worth out of it. We typically take it with us in a box and then use it to pack any purchases we make on the trip. Or to pack the dirty clothes and the valuables go inside the van.

Not long after we bought it, DH pulled too hard on the strap and broke a buckle. We went to Samsonite to try to buy one and they insisted on giving us a whole new bag.

To add to my post above, I agree with this. Our bags stay folded up and in the toolbox in the back of the truck.
