I just bought US$ and got a rate of $1.056 at BMO.

I was going to go today and change some money....I've been stashing a away several $$$ here and there for a while and it's up to $875. I Didn't make it there today but I will tomorrow for sure.

Do not know if I should buy now or wait? thinking it might hit par before my trip.

I'm waiting as well. Our trip isn't until September and I'd be a really happy camper if we could change our Disney and cruise funds into US at par.

Lets hope we don't end up disappointed we didn't take advantage of todays 1.034 rate!

I just bought some this morning and I thought it would be lower but today it was 1.0596

I opened a US account, but haven't put any $$$ in it since I opened it, I have faith it will go higher, we go in September as well & I'm trying to be patient!

Just a little word of caution - make sure there are no monthly fees on the account. You might find if there are, and they put you in a negative balance, that your account ends up being closed without you being aware.

My full payment was made on Monday and posted to Visa card yesterday at 1.0661.

I should probably start thinking about a USD account and card if we're going to continue booking vacations in USD.

No there's no monthly fee, I wouldn't have opened it if there was. It's at CIBC & they only charge 75 cents per transaction so every time I put US $$$ in & will cost me 75 cents each time, so I'm waiting & doing it all at once for what we'll need for our trip. I'm used to reading the fine print, I work in real estate :)

I checked out every bank & CIBC was the best. The US Visas all had yearly fees so the account was the best way to go & I'm going to pay for our trip by money order which was fairly cheap as well.

I have two RBC accounts. One is a savings in CAD and another is a chequing in USD. Both are no fee. There is a charge if I withdraw from the US more than twice in a month. As it is only set up for exchanging money online, I haven't been charged any extra fees.

I also exchanged money this week. If I had waited til today I would have saved $3.55.

Let's hope that the dollar keeps rising!

Hi Alderbrook, I also have the CIBC USD account. I may be misinterpreting your post, but just a heads up... the $0.75 is only for debits & withdrawls. You don't get charged for deposits, no matter how small or frequent. :)

It says on my terms "$0.75 per transaction" so I figured that was deposits as well? I'll have to check into it when I actually put $$$ in it :)

A bank never charges for a deposit (that I have heard of).

I also have a US account and have been transferring funds in there when I see the rate go down.

I have no idea if they charge for deposits, we bank with PC & there's no fees for anything so I have no idea what a "real" bank charges fees for anymore :) Seems they charge fees for everything these days so I just figured they charged for deposits as well.

No, definitely no charges for deposits with the CIBC account. I speak from first-hand experience having had the account for some time and depositing into it many times both at a teller and ATM.

Here's the link from CIBC:

Note the 1 where it says $0.75 per transaction, and it lists exactly what they consider a transaction in the footnote.

Thanks :) since I haven't actually used the account yet, I hadn't gone over everything, nice to know I can put $ in without being charged 75 cents, I'm going ot head down to the bank tomorrow to put $ in it.

Have you paid for your trip by money order before? That's what we were planning on doing.

RBC rate now is $1.0577

Today RBC is at 1.04 something. Xe has it at 1.02298

I hope our dollar stays strong.

Some do for business accounts when you deposit cash. Nice huh?
