anyone know of or can point me in the direction of good crockpot/slowcooker recipes?

I can't do spicey AT ALL, so no chillies :(

No garlic and only tiny amounts of onion.

Can you leave the crockpot on all day while the house is empty?

Sorry to sound so dumb..but I am new to this.

If you google crock pot or slow cooker recipes I'm sure you'll find quite a few sites with many, many recipes..

As for leaving the crock pot on when no one is home, I know that some people do this, but I for one wouldn't.. I'm really paranoid about fire - especially electrical ones.. I think it all depends on your own comfort zone..

I love crock pot meals! So easy once you throw everything in there.. Hardly seems like you're cooking at all.. LOL

I'm looking for a fantabulous crock pot pot roast recipe. The kind with the beef that just melts in your mouth. (Think 50's Prime Time Cafe) :thumbsup2

Didn't mean to hijack the thread, but I think I'm staying on-topic anyway. :teeth:

Seems I remember seeing recipes from the Disney restaurants somewhere on-line, but I'll be darned if I can remember where.. :confused3

Maybe you could google "Disney restaurant recipes" and see if anything comes up.. :)

Ok, I'm going to share my fabulous crock pot pot roast recipe.

2 boneless chuck roasts (2 1/2 pounds each)
1 envelope ranch salad dressing mix
1 envelope Italian salad dressing mix
1 envelope brown gravy mix
1/2 C. water

Note: I never use 2 roasts, usually only 1. That's all that will fit in my crock pot

Place roasts in slow cooker. In a small bowl, combine the salad dressing and gravy mixes; stir in water. Pour over meat. Cover and cook on low for 7-8 hours or until tender. Juices can be thickened for gravy.

I LOVE my crock pot! I do leave it on all day while I'm at work. It's so nice to come home and have dinner ready. I have a recipe for a really easy beef stew that we make when it gets cold. Just get a package of stew meat, a couple of cans of beef broth, and whatever veggies you want (we usually do carrots, potatoes, and green beans that get added for the last 30 minutes or so). I just dump it in the crock pot with a little salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder (both powders you can leave out if you want), and some herbs like thyme, savory, and sage. Then I leave it on low all day. It's great with noodles or rice or bread.

ETA: another way to find good crock pot recipes is to check your local library. This way, you get all the benefit of the cook book without having to pay lots of money for it (they can get really expensive!).

I make one that you add one cup of soy sauce, 6 cups of water, garlic powder, rosemary leaves and a big hunk of beef. Cook if all day and serve with crusty bread to absorb the juice. It's very good, a bit salty, so you can reduce the soy to 3/4 C, or use reduced sodium soy. It's very good.

For roast, I usually throw in a can of cream of mushroom soup and a packet of onion soup mix. I usually put a little beef broth in there too.

Common recipe, but very tasty. :thumbsup2

Oh! I highly recommend the Reynold's Slow Cooker Liners! They made me love my crock pot even more, b/c now there's almost no cleanup involved!!

Here is my favorite crockpot recipe. My family loves this, in fact both ds' away at school always ask for it when they come home.

Ingredients:

Bottom round roast
Lipton onion soup mix
1 cup ketcup
1/2 cup worchestire sauce
3 tablespoons brown sugar
3 tables spoons apple cider vinegar
pepper to taste
peeled baby carrots
slice potatoes

Place potatoes and carrots on bottom of crock pot. Put roast on top and pepper to taste. Sprinkle one packet of onion soup mix on top of roast. Mix other ingredients together and pour over roast and vegetables. Cook on low for 8-10 hours. I usually boil some egg noodles and serve the pot roast "gravy" over the noodles. Delicious!!!!

A fave of mine:

Garlic Lime Chicken

4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
1/2 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup fresh lime juice
1 Tbs. Worcestershire sauce
2 garlic cloves, minced
1/2 tsp. dry mustard
1/2 tsp. coarsely ground pepper

Place chicken in bottom of slow cooker. Mix together remaining ingredients and pour over top of chicken. Cover and cook on low for 6 to 8 hours.

There is a "series" of cookbooks titled Fix-it and Forget-it that is totally dedicated to crockpot recipes and they are tried and true. Betty Crocker also has a couple great cook books for CP cooking!

Yes, you can leave your crock pot/slow cooker cooking while away from home. Its the best tool for getting a hot meal on the table even for the most hectic of families! And as Fly Lady says, Its my secret weapon!

man now I'm hungry for a roast. And its only 9:17.

The best roast beef recipe I've ever had is as follows:

1 roast (we use blade...cheap and sooooo good done in crockpot)
1 pkg onion soup mix
1 can coke or pepsi (not diet)

Place roast in crockpot, sprinkle onion soup over it, and pour can of soda overtop of it. I usually do this the night before then put it in the fridge so it has even longer to absorb the taste and the acid in the soda breaks down the fibres in the cheaper cuts of roasts. I cook all day on low, and thicken the juices for the absolutely best gravy I've ever had!!

Our best friend had dental work done and was unable to eat anything but soups. He was actually able to eat this roast because it was so tender.

Enjoy!

This is pretty much the exact recipe that some online friends and I were passing around a few years ago. It is so yummy! And easy! Hubby used to be the one to make it since his work schedule allowed him to be home one day during the week. It was the one thing he could make and have ready for when I got home at 6:00. As it is now, even if we weren't nervous about leaving it on all day, we couldn't do it because we leave at 6:30 am and he gets home first at 4:30. That's 10 hours of cooking time. We're not interested in eating hockey pucks.
