Good Clean Fun or Indecent Exposure

I wouldn't call it "good, clean fun", but I wouldn't call the cops or keep the kid from walking, either.

It was a moron move, but kids are morons and do moronic stuff.

I'd ignore it.

I think he should be allowed to attend and participate at his graduation ceremony! The whole point of a senior prank is to leave a memory and this one did no harm.:sad2: There was no revenge, no destruction or vandalism and no animals were hurt in the process. It is a shame that punishments are taken to extremes.

Inappropriate, yes. Miss graduation, no.

Seeing what people are allowed to wear on any beach in the United States makes me wonder why the big deal. It's not like he was naked.

Were his private parts covered? Sorry, I can't tell from the post.

If they were covered, then stick him with the 5 day suspension but its ridiculous to bar him from participating in graduation. Its a harmless prank. There was no vandalism done, no property damage, etc. What's the big upset? :confused3

Sometimes I think people get too uptight over things now a days.

Agreed. He worked so hard to graduate - seems harsh that should all be taken away for one silly prank.

I agree with whoever said that the world has lost it's sense of humor.

It was not criminal
It caused no harm
There were no "damages"

The Principal overreacted - the kid should get to walk

IMO the loss of getting to walk really needs to be reserved for severe crimes of vandalism, property damage and intentional abuses.

Last year my son's Valedictorian turned in a quote to the yearbook as all Sr's were allowed to do - it is forever in that year book. No one caught it. The first letter of every word was capitalized and when you took all the capitalized letters and put them together he basically told his entire class and the administration to F'off. The F word was clear as day, we can see it in the print. Now, his classmates wanted him banned from walking and I agreed. His act was intentionally malicious and rather nasty.
The Principal did not agree and he was allowed to walk.

If the prom had a dress code and a conduct code and he broke it, I think he needs to serve the punishment. Don't most proms have pretty strict rules?

If they said, these are the rules and if you break them, these are the consequences - then they need to follow through. Every school I've been involved in has been quite clear that the consequence of senior pranks is not participating in the ceremony. I find it hard to believe there are schools without that rule in place.

I'm 40 and I thought it was funny.

It was harmless and I'm sure the kids found it funny, too.

But then again, I know what a tuxedo thong is and thanks for the visual! :rotfl:

The kid should have gotten one day of suspension and then made to write a report on streakers of the 1970's.

I was going to say that the punishment was way too harsh, but this comment brought up a really good point that I hadn't considered.

Suzi

Five will get you ten that he has his graduation prank all planned out and ready to go, so no, he should not be allowed to participate in the ceremony. He has proven that he cannot be trusted to behave like an adult at formal events, so I don't think that he should have the privilege of attending them in the near future.

Essentially, what he did was moon the crowd. I would probably have gone for a shorter suspension since it was not during school hours.

I only got thru page one...but my only thought is..
he did this at prom....with all his friends around...
graduation is with all his family around...
I doubt he was thinking the same thing :confused3

Anyways....if it were up to me, I'd let him walk, but stick with the othe punishment, but, it's not up to me...and from the OP, it doesn't look like its really up to anyone else to change it....doubt some petition will do it ..

I'd not only let him walk in commencement, I'd make him wear the thong. Let's see if he wants to wear it in front of everybody ;)

Seems a bit excessive to me. Suspension, maybe, but that is actually more fun than going to school. I think he should be able to go to the ceremony. Of course this is coming from the girl who helped play a couple of the graduation pranks at my commencement.:rolleyes1 I'm old though--It consisted of fart spray, and rolls of toilet paper.

I think the suspension is a good punishment. But not walking at graduation seems excessive.. what about other kids who have done bad things? Any drugs busts? Any vandalism? Why should they be allowed to walk but not this kid? From a legal perspective, all of these "crimes" are illegal and if the school is practicing a zero tolerance policy, these students shouldn't be allowed to walk either.

The one point brought up is we don't have a clue what this kid's prior stunts have been. Did he have any? Was this an out of character event OR was it the last straw type of thing & he figured what the heck are they going to do to me? I'll just do as I please and who cares if it breaks any rules.

I'm POSITIVE there were rules. They are strict as all get out for our Prom (probably because it's held in the city at one of the museums & if one kid screws up, the school will be held liable I'm sure! Permission slips have to be signed, code of conduct, etc...). Including if I recall a dress code for the Prom too.

Would this fall under Voyeurism/Exhibitionism? I'm assuming that would be completely streaking. I looked in our handbook and it says there would be a 3 - 10 day suspension, parents notified & police notified.

I don't know if it's too harsh or not, all depends on what the rules in place were. I know the kids most definitely are warned about such things. If you are warned & you want to take the chance of doing something you know is inappropriate don't call foul when you get caught and get exactly what they said would happen.

What a crock! The principal is on a power trip and should be ashamed of himself for letting his puffed up ego get in the way of common sense.

I am sure there was more than one girl in a skin tight gown showing lots of cleavage. Bet he let them stay.

Uhhhh, for some reason I was assuming "senior citizen" when I read senior. I was picturing an old man in a tuxedo thong running until I kept reading and it clicked in you meant a 12th grade senior. LOL

Friday night, one of our seniors removed his pants and ran from the prom in full view of most of the guests in a tuxedo thong. The principal has suspended him for five days and he will not be able to participate in the commencement ceremony. The debate, of course, from the students' perspective (and I hear there is a petition to allow him to walk with his class) is that this is too harsh. The principal feels as though he's actually cutting the kid a break by not getting the police involved and that actions have consequences.
I side with the principal, but then again I'm old.

Thoughts on the act and the punishment?

I remember a few guys doing this during the school day when I was a senior. If I recall, they police were called and took care of the "situation." :rolleyes1:rolleyes1:rolleyes1
