Just a FYI:
Stripes and
National Lampoons Vacation (first one)
Airplane, Breakfast Club are rated R...
Of course they would be mild by today's standards-- but the first vacation talks about incest, pot, porn suggestion and there are a few F bombs
Stripes has topless women and some cursing...
Airplane --has a topless scene at the very end plus some cursing.
Breakfast Club-- has some cursing, and Bender's character talks about fairly explicit sexual things.. this whole conversation is cut out when it is shown on cable channels unless it is shown on Fox Movie Classics.
Caddyshack--has a topless nude scene plus some fairly explicit sex scenes-- I have this DVD at home and DH and I both said "We didn't remember this scene"
Jaws-- we have this DVD at home and the "killing" scenes are bloodier and there is a bit of nudity-- a lot is edited out on cable.
I recently saw these DVDs unedited and those movies are very different than what is usually shown on TBS, TNT, AMC or such like that. FMC (Fox Movie Classic) plays the unedited versions of movies-- the "true" version of Die Hard is very different than the edited one.
As for suggestions:
Secondhand Lions
October Sky
Any of the Muppet Movies--might be too babyish for the older ones
Hoosiers
Back to the Future
Some of the earlier Star Trek movies from the 80's
Indiana Jones movies
Original Star Wars movies
ET
Breaking Away
Pretty in Pink-- not just your usual teen movie-- some heavy topics
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Rocky-- the original uses the word retarded a lot if you are sensitive to this
Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure-- this is really funny!
Bettlejuice
Houseguest - Phil Hartman/Sinbad-- my kids loved it!
Some of the James Bonds are ok.. but it depends on your preferences..
For example, my 14 year old son had a huge laugh over the characters "Kitty" Galore and Plenty O Toole. There is definetely casual sex and some sexist remarks if you are ok with that.
You did mention younger ones.. so this is something to think about.
