The good chicken tenders have returned to the Disney Dream. They seemed to have exhausted the ones that were in the Dream in the Med. My entire family is thrilled and insisted that I report back! Happy cursing and Thanksgiving everyone!

*please excuse the duplication if this has already been confirmed and discussed on another thread

My kid will be happy to know this update. Thank you!

This makes me laugh. Europe / UK has far higher food standard regualtions. No artificial chemicals are allowed and chicken is not allowed to be chlorine washed.

American palates are so messed up due to the all the chemicals in your food that you think the American chicken tenders are better.

We were on the WBTA. Even the UK passengers were complaining about those chicken tenders.

Nah, I'm Australian and do sometimes frown disdainfully at some of the food and portion sizes when I'm in the States, but give me the usual DCL tenders any day of the week. I don't know if they would be the same brand as what the Dream had in Europe, or if they sourced them locally in Australia, but the tenders I had on the Wonder a few weeks back were hot garbage in comparison.

Whatever ones they were using on the Wonder seemed far more processed and chicken nugget-like compared to the tenders I've had on any of the ships sailing elsewhere.

I think folk are just saying they taste better. Not that they are better for you. Of course, taste is subjective anyway.

We had such a weird chicken tender experience on the 2022 Norway Iceland Scotland. They kept changing. Like you never knew which type of chicken tenders to expect one day to the next. It was a big topic of conversation around the ship lol.

Last year on the Wish they had the bad chicken tenders outside on the deck and the good chicken tenders inside the buffet. Here's hoping for good chicken nuggets on our Disney Dream cruise next week. We haven't been to the parks in a while. Does anyone know if the chicken nuggets changed in the parks? I always thought a lot of this type food was the same on the cruise and the parks.

So I’m curious, has this been a consistent change with whatever ship is in Europe, or a one-off this year? We’ll be sailing the Med next summer and I’m just curious if I should temper my expectations 😆

When the ships are in Europe they use European food suppliers and have to comply with EU food regulations. Any American food items which do not comply can not be used. So Disney can not import the chicken tenders , they have to buy ones from European manufacturers.

That's how they were on the WBTA also. Consensus was that they were subpar even for a chicken nugget.

You are making an assumption that the usual product in the US doesn't comply with European standards. Do you know that for certain?

I agree that when the ships are in Europe (or Australia or another geographic location) they use local suppliers. It wouldn't be possible to import all food items and wouldn't be logical to import just 1 item. More likely it's a combination of cost and timing driving that decision, moreso than whether the "American" product(s) meet the European import standards.

Yes
It is well reported that American chicken is not allowed in EU / UK.

Chlorine washed chicken has been banned in The EU since 1997.

The issue came back into the news when The UK voted to leave EU. There were fears that American chicken would be imported and UK politicians were very clear that they would not allow it.

UK will not import chlorinated chicken from US, ministers say

I hear you but in this case, the taste the difference had nothing to do with "food standards" and messed up palates. We had four different "varieties" of chicken tenders during a Summer 2022 European cruise, none of them being particularly good to this Canadian palate.

...and that has been my experience on post-covid European sailings. Totally speculating, but I suspect that due to costs or a genuine supply issue, some items are "lower grade" then their US equivalent. For example, the meat used at Duck-In Diner for the Shawarmas/pita wrap had a spam-like texture. It didn't taste bad... but wasn't up to par to what we had been used to.

Seriously you are missing the point.

Americans are used to chlorinated chicken and foods high in artificial flavors and colours. Both are banned in UK and EU food.s. When in Europe, Disney uses European and UK suppliers for their food, and those foods have to comply with EU food laws.

Therefore Americans will find a difference in taste in the food served on Disney ships during the summer season. The Disney ships home port in Barcelona Spain for the Mediterranean cruises and Southampton , England for the Northern and Western Europe cruises.

And you are missing the point that multiple people on those sailings reported that even UK residents and other Europeans found the tenders/nuggets to be sub-par. NOT just Americans.

No, I am totally getting the point. Do people around the world have different taste palates -absolutely.

Does the EU have different food standards than the US - absolutely

Does it mean that the European product is better? - absolutely not, the European product may use a lower meat grade for example, or actually produce a more processed version of the product.

I'd ask that you edit your post as it is quite insulting,
