Good "chapter" book series for 6 year old girl.

At that age I'd read the entire Black Stallion Series and loved it!

My DD7 (2nd grade), just started on the Weird Teacher series (the first one is Miss Daisy is Crazy). She loved it, so those are on her Christmas list. I even carried it with me when we went to WDW last month and she kept up with her required reading for school while we waited for shows, on the bus, etc. :thumbsup2.

She also likes the Junie B. Jones books, just started Ramona the Pest and likes the series of books that Whoopi Goldberg wrote (there are 3 in that series).

I always LOVED the Cam Jansen series! :lovestruc Even when they got too easy I'd still pick them up from the library and read them. To this day they're really the only books that I actively remember reading before 3rd grade... which is when I started reading R.L. Stine mysteries (not the kid ones!).

She might be a little young for the Babysitters Club, but I read them at her age. I read every single one. I LOVED to read. I would read one of those books a day. I still love to read, and still have all my babysitters club books!

me too!!!!

how about Amber Brown or Judy Moody also the American Girl Collection books (Kit, Molly, Julie, Samantha, Rebecca, etc.) and anything by Beverly Cleary. Ramona was great to read when I was younger.

I would definitely suggest the American Girl series. I'm pretty sure I had already read them all by the time I turned 7. I was also an avid reader.
I also loved The Boxcar Children and the Bobbsey Twins. I loved reading series cause I didn't have to learn new characters, I could just read and read and read and all the stories just continued on.

A lot of great suggestions have been given already, but I'll add Nancy Drew (or Nancy Drew Notebooks, depending on her reading level).

Lots of great ideas already!

The Freddie Fernortner, Fearless First Grader series by Johnathan Rand is very popular in my daughter's elementary school.

I LOVED Cam Jansen. The Baby-Sitters Little Sister series is a perfect intro to the Babysitters Club series.

Junie B. Jones? Baby Sitter's Little Sister? She can go on to the Baby Sitter's Club when she's ready.

I thought of 2 more books my kids have enjoyed.

Love that Dog: A Novel by Sharon Creech
Hate that Cat by Sharon Creech

Both of these are written in poetry but tell a story. My kids love poetry and both of them enjoyed these books. My 7 year old really loves poetry and really can't get enough of it. She has read all of Now I am Six and Where The Sidewalk Ends as well.

According to the AR level of Love that Dog the interest level is 6-8 years old.

Hate that Cat has an interest level of 4-6 years old.

If you are looking for something different these may be a good choice.

we've been reading the different series within the rainbow fairy sets... my 3 year old loves these as well. i'd say these are a good very first chapter book set for the early reader... while i love reading the american girl series to my daughter i think the vocabulary/content is at a higher level. in our experience the rainbow fairies books are simple and easy to tackle for budding solo readers. i've heard good things about the magic tree house as well and will be checking into those next :-)

When I taught 3rd grade several years ago, I happened upon a series in Half Price books that my 6 year old DD now LOVES!

Disney Girls series by Gabrielle Charbonnet--the 1st book is titled One of Us.

The stories are about 6 girls who live in Orlando and all think they are secretly one of the Disney Princesses. Each book has some sort of social problem that the girls learn a lesson about(similar to Babysitters Club). I love these because it combines our love of Disney with her love of reading! Also, each girl has a unique personality and NONE of them are rude to parents, teachers or others (a la Junie B. Jones, who we've had to ban in our house, due to attitude problems :scared1:)!!!

They are out of print but you can find them used on amazon.com for $3-4 dollars apiece.

What about "The Invention of Hugo Cabret" by Brian Selznick? My 7 year old DD LOVES that book... :thumbsup2

It's a fabulous book; I wish I could find something like it for her to read next.

I have 3 DDs (10, 9 and 6) and the oldest two are huge readers. (Still working on the youngest!) Here are some favorites series/authors that they loved in 1st or 2nd grade:

Read on their own:
Magic Treehouse
Rainbow Magic
Cam Jansen
Gooney Bird Greene
Katie Kazoo
Judy Moody
Ivy & Bean
My American (great historical fiction - series for older kids is called Dear America)
Poppy books by Avi
All Roald Dahl
Geronimo Stilton
Weird School (not my favorite series my DD loved them)

I am sure there are more, I just can't think of them right now. My girls did not really enjoy the Beverly Cleary or Judy Blume books (although I LOVED them as a kid and may try them with my youngest).

Read to them (we still read nightly to all of our DDs, even though the older two are very strong readers on their own):
E.B. White Books (Charlotte's Web, Stuart Little, etc.) (we read these when they were in kindergarten)
Little House on the Prairie (1st grade)
Chronicles of Narnia (1st - 2nd grade)
Harry Potter (2nd - 3rd grade)
Percy Jackson (3rd - 4th grade)
Anne of Green Gables (4th - 5th grade)

OT but I would love series recommendations for older kids, ages 10+. We have suggested that we possibly stop reading to my oldest - 5th grade - so she has more time to read on her own, and she was very upset about that idea. So we will continue to read to her as long as she wants us to!

Have you looked into the Warrior Cats Series - Erin Hunter? My 5th grader has been reading them for a few years and still loves them and can't wait to read the new ones.

Magic Treehouse
Boxcar Mysteries
Nancy Drew
Anne of Green Gables (may be a bit too young for these!)
