Good-bye, Tom Sawyer's Island

Actually I wonder how reliable this information is, because miceage has not always been correct.
If you read the article, there are a lot of "not yet approved" caveats. So MiceAge is not saying "this is what will happen". IMO MiceAge is saying "these are some things being seriously discussed".

I agree with Joe that just because Disney decides not to pursue any of these things does not mean MiceAge is or was incorrect.

I am always of the opinion that things would have changed faster if Walt was alive. he was not just an early adopter of technology....he created it! With Dl being landlocked....I envision that he would of constantly been tinkering with the park.
Needless to say I am not in the "Walt would have never allowed this" crowd.

I hope this rumor is true. I trust the team currently at Disney to pull it off and have it fit thematically with the existing infastructure.

I have been feeling like this for the past few years. After seeing the horrible revamp to Tomorrowland, and the total lack of intelligence when building DCA, I think Walt would have done things WAY different. Also, I highly doubt that he would be thrilled about the massive use of CGI in the movies. I'm not saying he would have been against them, just that they should only been used when necessary or if it was going to enhance the movie better than traditional animation.

But, we could go on and on about the "what if's" of if Walt were still around today. So, I won't do that. All I'll say is I believe whole-heartedly that he is still around at the park - in spirit. And yes, I believe he visits from The Other Side more often than not - just to check in on things and let his presence be known.

...Joe...

Judy I agree 100%. Adapting and changing with the times are trademarks of Disney's success.

My kids were absolutely thrilled at the idea of pirate island. TSI is fine, but my pirate obsessed kids think this is a wonderful idea (and if it happens, its yet another reason to get annual passes during our visit in Feb!)

I think changing the island to a Pirate island would be fun, especially for boys, since the focus has seemed to be more for girls with all the princesses.

There were pirates in New Orleans, so I think it would work to have a Pirate Island, then I would hope that NOS would kind of go back to the charming land it has been.

I'm watching KTLA morning news and they keep saying they're doing a story/interview about possible big changes at Disneyland. Just FYI :thumbsup2

Yep. This is what it was about. They say it's in the L.A Times. I don't get the times. They said 'Disney will not confirm nor deny'. So nothing new LOL, but they're appearantly spreading it around in the local news ;)

it was chosen as a tribute to Missouri, Walt's homestate. As was Mainstreet, USA. I think this is a sign that generations are moving on...those with emotional ties to the Mark Twain stuff are retired if they're still around. I'd guess that major overhauls were an emotional issue- until now.

I have to say, comparing the island at DLR to the one at WDW...well, there's nothing there! I was very disappointed with the one at DLR because it just didn't engage the kids. They could have had things to do that were of interest, but when we were there last year all it offered were trails...trails with not much to see and nothing to do along the way. I think the one at WDW was much more engaging. Being able to grab a PBJ and eat dockside was one of our favorite things about it. We ate lunch there two out of the five days we were there!

As for palm trees...well, could they get mangroves to grow? They'd have to change the water from fresh water to salt water...but it would at least be true to New Orleans. That would be okay for the riverboat...after all, NO was the destination.

An improved theme...any theme...was much called for. As to the question of whether my kids refuse to play at local parks...that's comparing apples and oranges. It's 5 a five minute drive to the park and the only cost is the gas. If I'm saving for years, traveling 1500 miles, and plunking down more than a month's take-home-pay in return for 5 days of entertainment, those days had better be GOOD!!!!

It's not really like apples to oranges. If you were paying all that money and going all that way just for TSO, then yes I would say it was a waste. But it is such a small part of the whole trip that I think it can be compared to a local park, it's just a way for the kids to run around and get away from all the lines that come with all the other attractions!
